The Despised Lady Wishes to be Loved Translation

Extra 9.1: A Best Friend’s Worries

—The first letter.

[To: Ted

My classes are difficult. However, all the textbooks are first-class. If you take your time to read it, you realize they’re actually quite fascinating. Also, the dormitory room is a single room. It’s not a bad thing, but it’s still lonely.

Even though I am by myself, whenever I turn off the lights, I keep calling out to someone.

There’s no reply. It’s lonely. Actually, no, I’d be scared if there was a reply.

What should I do? For now, I decided to write this letter.

From: Geo]

—The second letter.

[To: Ted

As expected of an aristocratic school! Many unknown and strange things happen here. Did you know that attending a dance party is part of the grade? It’s tomorrow, by the way. I don’t have anything to wear to the party, so I’ll just wear my uniform. These clothes are so high quality that I want to use them even after I graduate. It’s a shame they’re only for when you’re a student.

From: Geo]

—The third letter.

[I saw a Moon Fairy.]

—The fourth letter.

[Ted, don’t be surprised, but the Moon Fairy is actually human!]

How is that surprising?

The live-in employees of the store woke up early in the morning.

After getting up and completing his duties for the day, Ted opened the letter that had been addressed to him and was struck by the very short sentence.

Ted was taken in when he was ten years old and had been working at that store for six years. A few weeks had passed since his best friend, with whom he had shared the joys and sorrows of doing chores, studying, and working, left. As he initially promised, he wrote Ted regularly.

That morning, Ted received the fourth letter.

“Well, at least he’s a polite guy, so I’m sure he wouldn’t say anything rude…”

At best, his friend, Geo Wales, was honest, and at worst, oblivious and insensitive.

When it was decided that he’d enroll in the school for nobles who had a lot of pretense and prestige amidst the royal capital, he wondered about the sort of hardships would await Geo there.

Something will definitely happen.

He never minces his words.

He’ll say something he should never say to that noble lady!

Considering that girl attended such an elite school, she must be prideful as heck!

“Huh?”

So far, based on what he saw in the letter, it seemed like Geo was safe. But just as Ted was thinking that, another envelope suddenly fell to the floor. Apparently, it had been stuck to the back of the envelope of the letter he just read.

Let’s see…

Unlike in the aristocratic district, the postal situation in the downtown area was rather sloppy. Sometimes, another letter would arrive right after Ted sent his reply, while other times, there’d be a backlog.

Apparently, the fifth letter arrived along with the fourth.

[To: Ted

It’s an emergency.

Either the prince of this kingdom has bizarre sense of aesthetics, or something is off with his head or eyes.

The girl I met the other day, whom I thought was a Moon Fairy, is named Lithia. However, apparently the prince has been calling her ugly over the past decade, even though she’s so pretty and cute.

He calls her a mean, ugly, white-haired witch with golden eyes… Yeah, I think he should see a doctor. But since he’s a prince, no one can advise him… Or is it too late already?

When I was dancing with Lithia in the dance class, an upperclassman came to me and offered to switch place swith me. He pitied me for having to deal with such an ugly witch.

Well, he turned out to be the prince.

Of course I refused. For all I know, that guy might have been hallucinating. Even my light magic can’t cure an illness that started ten years ago.

From: Geo]

“Seeeeeeeeeee—!? I calleeeed itttt—!!”

To think he actually entertained the thought, ‘everything sounds fine’ for even a moment…

Things quickly became serious.

“What’s wrong, Ted!? —It’s Geo, isn’t it!?

“Did he confront a teacher!?”

“If he shaves his head, do you think they will forgive him!?”

Hearing Ted’s scream, employees around his age abandoned their duties and gathered around him. They all knew Geo well and were worried that he might do something.

Ted unfolded the fourth and fifth letters that had just arrived and showed them to everyone.

“…Oh no…”

Aah…

“This… This is it…

The faces of his friends paled as they finished reading one after the other.

Even if that stupidly honest man who couldn’t read between the lines didn’t understand, Ted, his friends who weren’t oblivious, and with many others did.

The story of the prince and the noble lady was unfolding on the other side of that letter.

They could already guess why the prince insisted on calling a girl as beautiful a Moon Fairy ugly for ten years.

“…It’s popular gossip on the streets. The love story between the dishonest prince and the heroine.”

It’s like when an adolescent brat says no when he actually means yes.

Regardless, rather than a noble, this is the prince we’re talking about.

Either way, the concept seemed foreign to Geo.

“That kind of thing happens in real life too. Hey, if any of you girls have a book like that, send it to Geo.”

“Do you think that will get your point across? This is Geo we’re talking about. You have to explain it clearly.”

“Even if I explain it to him, I don’t think Geo will pick up on what’s happening and back off.”

After all, this is Geo.

Each of them clutched their heads and mumbled in resignation. There was no way Geo would just be like, ‘OK! Got it, I won’t be oblivious anymore!’

“Wait, wait, this isn’t the time to give up! This isn’t just some nobleman, but the prince! Geo approached the prince’s crush and refused when asked to step down from being her dance partner! At this rate, he will…

“Yes… If it goes according to the narrative, he… he’ll be erased.
