The Despised Lady Wishes to be Loved Translation

Extra 9.2: A Best Friend’s Worries

Every nuisance that got in the way of the prince’s love was usually erased. Such was the so-called love theory.

With the leads of the story being the prince and his lady, it would’ve been a happy ending, but for Ted and his friends, said nuisance was their precious friend! There was no way they could accept a happy ending where Geo was erased.

“—Or rather, isn’t Geo in love with this girl? Will he be okay?”

“Compared to losing your life, what is a bit of heartbreak? There are many fish in the sea.”

“Still, I feel bad for him. His love will be snatched away by a prince whom he thought utterly bizarre… Once he returns safely, let’s hold a consolation get together with everyone…”

One of them was about to say that, anticipating Geo’s not-so-bright future, but suddenly hesitated.

“—Hold on. It doesn’t seem like that girl accepted the prince’s invitation to dance either, right? Well, it could be because Geo refused him first, but…”

The letter stated that Geo declined to give his role as the girl’s dance partner to the prince. However, there was no mention of the girl later withdrawing her acceptance. So, it could be surmised that she also chose Geo over dancing with the prince.

“Perhaps this young lady, Lithia, is also fond of Geo?”

The others suddenly pondered over what that one person said.

“Well, I don’t know… I mean, it’s not exactly impossible, isn’t it?”

“Even if he’s a prince, I can see why she would prefer a man who sincerely praises her over the man who speaks ill of her all the time…”

Of course, Ted was also biased because of his own self-interest. He was well aware that there were circumstances unique to royalty and aristocrats who valued their social status. Besides, by marrying the prince, she’d be set for life.

…But still—

No one was on your side.

You were in a hopelessly disadvantageous position, one where everyone conformed to social cues.

Then all of the sudden, someone reached out to you without hesitation, shielding you behind his back.

Surely, everyone would be able to see just how dependable that was.

Although everyone was worried about Geo, they also trusted him a lot.

“Maybe you should tell him to confess before the prince does?”

“Only someone oblivious to the atmosphere to death would be capable of that, someone like Geo.”

“Geo is the worst when it comes to reading the mood!”

…Anyway, they trusted him a lot, but for a completely different reason.

“That’s right, if it’s Geo, I’m sure he’ll be able to do it! Do you remember how he told our boss that we were preparing for his surprise birthday party!?”

“Whenever a customer did a fitting and asked for his opinion, he would answer honestly, which is the opposite of what you should do! As a result, he became known as a trustworthy clerk!”

“He also screwed up an impromptu magic show that our store set up by revealing the secret from the beginning!”

“…Do you trust him, or do you not trust him?”

Ted calmly confronted his friends as they voiced their deep trust in Geo one after another. When it came to Geo’s obliviousness, they had no shortage of jokes.

“But I guess that’s true… If it’s him…

A few weeks ago, everyone threw a grand farewell party for Geo. Ted saw him off until the end as he departed for the academy.

Even though he was about to set out for a completely unknown place, “It’ll be okay, trust me!” He said that without any hint of anxiety.

Since Geo, who never lies, said that…

“I feel like he’s going to be okay, even in situations where he definitely won’t be okay…”

Certainly, Geo wouldn’t care how much those around him admired the prince. It was either his way or the high way—the destroyer of atmosphere. He’d be fine even if he didn’t know whether it’ll turn out for better or worse.

“With the other party being a prince, he’s probably prepared a lot… I can’t imagine he’s just going to badmouth her forever. Besides, it’s been ten years since then. A lot can be done in ten years.”

“It’ll be fine, Geo can ruin even the most elaborate set up.”

“What’s the atmosphere like at the school? Regardless of the female students, if it’s that easy to understand, there are probably a lot of male students who’re rooting for the prince.”

“Hey, that’s Geo’s specialty, right? There’s no atmosphere the Destroyer of Atmosphere can’t ruin.”

What will happen from now on?

Will Geo’s experiences of ruining atmospheres all these past years be enough?

Wait, now that just sounds like a special move…

“Like I said, do you trust him or not!?”

Either way, all Ted and his friends, who were far away, could do was believe.

As long as Geo wouldn’t compromise on his beliefs, then…

“I hope that girl, Lithia, is the type who likes heroes more than princes.”

“Ahaha! Geo is a hero in a sense!”

I hope the girl Geo fell for is different from the average…

That was what Ted and his friends prayed for while re-reading the letter they couldn’t quite comprehend.
