8. Nigel is Loved by Everyone
Thus, we arrived at Lynchgiham.
I alighted from the carriage and said goodbye to the coachman.
“From here, I will be fine. Please relay my greetings to the Knight Leader.”
“Of course! Who would’ve thought that Miss could use healing magic! You’ve given me a good show!”
From there, I would ride in Nigel’s carriage.
By the way, I was worried about the coachman’s safety, so I secretly casted a barrier magic on him.
That way, until his return to the royal capital, he wouldn’t encounter any monster.
“Then, Eliane, let’s go.”
“Yes.”
Along with Nigel, I headed for the entrance of Lynchgiham.
Then, the carriage stopped in front of the main gate…
“Lord Nigel! You’re safe!”
The gatekeeper rushed towards us as soon as he spotted Nigel.
“Yes, I’ve managed to return safely.”
“That’s a relief! We received a report about Behemoth’s sightings around here… everyone is quite worried about you, Nigel!”
“Actually, we did encounter the Behemoth on our way home…”
“Huh!?”
“What’s wrong? Somehow, we managed to escape. Also, thanks to this healer’s assistance, no one remained hurt in the end.”
Nigel gazed at me.
I realized that it was more convenient for me to be regarded as a mere ‘healer’, so I just played along.
“Then that’s good…! Well, everyone’s waiting, please enter!”
“Thank you.”
Nigel thanked him and we soon entered the city of Lynchgiham.
As expected… judging from the gatekeeper’s reaction, Nigel seemed to be an aristocrat.
Otherwise, it would have been impossible to pass through the gate without showing some sort of documentation.
“What’s wrong, Eliane? Is there something on my face?”
“N, no…! It’s nothing!”
When Nigel stared at my face, I reflexively averted my gaze.
What is happening to me…?
Why am I suddenly feeling bashful…?
When I was with Prince Claude, I’ve never experienced these kind of feelings…
“Uhm… where exactly is your house, Lord Nigel?”
I felt awkward and shifted the topic.
“It’s in the center of the town. It’s not very far. You must be tired, but can you endure with a little bit more? I think it will be a bit noisy.”
“…? I understand.”
Usually, in the city, the closer a place was to the center, the higher the price of the land.
…and his house is there… Nigel, who are you, really?
“Lord Nigel is back!!”
“Lord Nigel, as always, thank you!!”
“He’s as handsome as always…”
I saw the people of the city praising Nigel one after another…
“Amazing…!”
I was quite surprised at the sight.
“Haha… even though I told them many times there’s no need to do this. I am sorry for the noise.”
“T, that’s not true…”
Nigel was loved by the citizens—
—perhaps because his family was one that valued people very much.
He was truly the opposite of Prince Claude, who levied heavy tax on the citizens, and was pretty much being disliked by them due to his selfishness…
…Prince Claude never realized they hated him, though.
“What is that tall building?”
Looking out of the carriage, I could make out a tall castle-like building soaring towards the sky.
“That’s the royal castle of Lynchgiham. The royal family lives there.”
“Hee… I see.”
…More importantly, the carriage was approaching the castle?
Was Nigel’s house set up near the castle? Maybe he was respected enough as an aristocrat by the King, hence there was that?
As we approached the castle, my doubts grew stronger.
Hm?
Huh?
…No way.
“We’ve reached our destination.”
The horse-drawn carriage stopped in front of a building.
“But, this place…”
“This is my house.”
“Huh, huuuh—?!”
Surprised, I uttered a loud scream.
That was only natural.
Because we had stopped in front of the castle Nigel had described earlier.
***T/N: Ditch 1 sorry-ass prince, get 1 golden-ass prince!
There’s a very logical and reasonable explanation to your concerns.
Everyone went out for a team building retreat and left the Prince and his entourage (aka the successors of the Ministers) at the castle to take care of things … for several years … and forgot to return from their retreat in Fantasy Hawai’i.
My thinking is The King is bedridden and sick so most of his tasks are delegated to the Prince as to become accustomed to what life as being King entails once he is gone. But My question is while the King can be explained What about the King’s ministers, advisers, and all the other members of the court? Was the Saint’s banishment a private affair? Maybe the guards were told not to bother the Ministers for this and just guard the door? Where was the royal guards who would the prince expel the Saint. I refuse to believe a Prince, Princess, Saint(Future Queen), Queen(Deceased Saint), or King would be without Guards. Where is the Church? Surely, A goddess picking a saint for the Kingdom must have a Church, If so The Church should intervene finding out that the Saint is missing(you would think she prays in the Main Church as a show of grandeur and considering it’s a place of worship). While the King can be explained there are too many others missing The Church, Ministers of War, agriculture, finance, Advisers to the Prince and King, and Royal Guards. Like the Royal Court is never an empty place unless it’s being unused at the time but you would still have minimum 10 people with 6 most likely being Royal Guards
The story is a little force. I want her to travel around a little bit more. Meeting a prince right after leaving is just too unrealistic.
“He was truly the opposite of Prince Claude, who levied heavy tax on the citizens, and was pretty much being disliked by them due to his selfishness”
I think the author doesn’t understand the difference between a King and a Prince. The Prince should not be able to levy taxes, but even if he did, wouldn’t the King stop him? Furthermore, if FMC is the Saintess and she’s quite literally the only thing keeping their Kingdom alive, why does the Prince have the ability to annul the engagement and banish her? Only the King could do such a thing. Where is the King?
I feel really weird xd bc based of how she describes things I feel like she just move to another city and not another kingdom? well, so far is not bad. Thank you for the translations!
golden ass ?
Huh, called it I guess. Anyway, goodbye old prince and hello new Prince!
Little bit bothered by the jumpcut to the now doomed kingdom, and then back to Elaine. The save royalty on the road really is cliche but it’s always so no conplaints from me
I saw it coming, but I still feel disappointed that the first dude she meets, before even trying to create a new existence for herself, is the new love interest and a prince.
I wish she had spend at least a month in the other country, finding a job and making new friends before meeting Nigel.
I am still going to keep reading, though.
Completely agree there is no building of character or plot here at all…way too sudden and far to coincidental…
Hohoo! Was thinking that this story seemed really familiar! I can now see I have been here before! Ohohohohoho, cabin fever from being in lockdown for months doesn’t come without side effects I see… can’t remember anything anymore… well then let’s continue
That’s probably because her character is that of an irredeemable sociopath played off for laughs? If she actually had to truly interact with normal people either her odd way of thinking would be too obvious, or her character would change. If this happened then had already been shown would have been for naught. As I remarked… either this author is really bad at writing, or his intention is to create a sociopath main character that lives in a world filled with really stupid people.
You… really like to overthink novels huh?
How did they get to the capital so quickly?
The power of time skip
