99: Lord Dylan is Angry Again
Whenever Avril revealed she could memorize things at a glance, some would call her revolting. Upon sensing Teresa’s fear, Avril became remorseful.
Did I terrify Lady Teresa…?
Perhaps she didn’t need to go that far to prove her innocence.
Suddenly, Dylan became enraged.
“—Say another word, and I’ll see to it that you are thrown out of this mansion this instance.”
“!”
“Her abilities should be praised—not feared nor criticized. I have no need for such shallow people.”
At Dylan’s harsh words, Teresa, who was about to guilt trip Avril, went pale and shut her mouth.
Lord Dylan… seems very angry.
Surely, Dylan would get to the point soon. Avril decided that she shouldn’t speak any further.
After all, Dylan didn’t come to the separate building to see Avril’s performance as a maid, or introduce his fiancée.
The purpose of his visit is to examine the closet in Teresa’s room and gather evidence regarding her and Baron Pannella’s involvement in drug trafficking.
Aware that she had a habit of speaking her mind, Avril did her best to keep quiet.
Then, Dylan turned to look at Teresa.
“Teresa Pannella. You claimed to have been invited by the former duke to live in this separate building, it that not so?”
“I-indeed…”
“Precisely how did you get invited by the former duke?”
“The previous duke noticed me when he visited my homeland…”
“I see. Your house is under investigation because of suspicions of drug trafficking. Are you aware of that?”
“…I did hear about it… But it has nothing to do with me! Otherwise, why’d I offer to work as a servant!? I’d rather work than stay as a mistress and wait for the day when my master is finally done with me…!”
In response to Teresa’s reply, Dylan said ruthlessly.
“Let me see your room to clarify your innocence.”
“—!? Wha… Why would you do that!?” Teresa shuddered.
“Your family is involved in drug trafficking, so you have to be investigated as well. Furthermore, you’ve received gifts from your family on a frequent basis, which may raise suspicion. Hence, before the government officially takes the reins the case, the Duke of Lancester will see to your investigation.”
After hearing that, Teresa seemed to have regained her composure.
“…I understand. But can you give me a moment?”
“Why?”
“Please let me prepare so that I can serve my guests.”
“That’s unnecessary. It’s about time to check your closet. The other day, Avril, the laundry maid, claimed that there was a hidden compartment at the back of your closet.”
“…! That’s impossible. I mean, how would she know!? She just stepped into my room briefly…”
“You said it yourself. You showed her the inside of your closet.”
“!”
Hearing that, Teresa glowered at Avril and screamed.
“! Did you trick me!? You pretended to be a new maid to investigate me!”
“No, they really did mistake me as a maid at first…”
“You must’ve planned this all along! You even went as far as to look the part of a maid!”
“Like I said—ugh!”
When Avril tried to explain, Teresa shoved her away. As she stumbled, Dylan held her in place. Teresa didn’t miss that opportunity and ran for the open window, jumping out of it.
