5. Missing Each Other
āA, amazing! Itās that easy to learn!?ā
The very next day, I bought and read the book that Claris told me about. In the story, the woman who had been appealing to the man suddenly became cold. During the climax, the man then said, āIt was only after losing you that I realized your importance.ā The two quickly became aware of each otherās feelings and ended up together. I unintentionally gasped out in admiration.
It seemed that the stronger someone were to pull away, the more effective it was. I didnāt want to do that to Noel, but I did yearn for some changes.
But the problem was in the āpulling awayā itself. That was, I had to be cold to Noel. For many years, now, it had become a habit for me to just confess to him the moment I saw his face.
Indeed, itās definitely impossible for me.
Finally, I decided to rely on my fatherās connections and visited a person who could use high-level restriction spells.
āAnyway, Iād like to stop myself from confessing to Lord Noel Anderson. Also, please make sure that I wonāt smile in front for him. Lastly, to avoid showing any hint of excitement when Iām with him… Well, I wonder if those are too extreme…ā
āI understand. What about the duration?ā
āFor the time being, set it to three months.ā
The old wizard casted a foreign spell on me. Immediately afterwards, I got kicked out of the room, āDone. Next person, please.ā Usually, itād take a full year to make a reservation with the old wizard. I had to thank my father for making one.
To be honest, I didnāt feel like anything had changed. Even so, I paid him with half a yearās worth of my salary. Itād be troublesome if nothing happened.
By the way, it seemed that people couldnāt tell that magic had been applied. It was a powerful spell that couldnāt be written on paper, or be conveyed through words. Anyway, all I had to do was meet Noel. I tightly clenched my fist.
***
It had been a month since I received the restriction spell. Unfortunately, Noel was on an expedition. The day had finally come where weād be attending the same party.
Although Noel was already at the venue, I passed by him and headed for a window. The moment our eyes met, I kept walking. With that alone, I felt confident that I could āpull awayā.
The book said that āpulling awayā was a gradual thing. For the time being, I was wondering if what I did was enough. However, when I was talking with an acquaintance with champagne in one handā
āYo, Sherry.ā
āOh, itās been a long time, Walt.ā
āHuh? You arenāt going to greet Lord Anderson today?ā
āY, yes. Thatās right.ā
āHuh?! Whatās wrong with you!? Do you have a fever!?ā
He immediately put his hand on my forehead and checked his own. Although he was being fussy, he was showing his concern for me.
āI, I just donāt feel like it.ā
āAre you really Sherry? Well, youāre an adult, already. Itās time for you to accept reality.ā
āHow noisy, leave me alone.ā
āIf youāre available, should I go for you?ā
āHuh? What are you talking about? Such a tasteless joke.ā
āItās as if you donāt know what Iām like.ā
Despite being treated coldly, Walt continued to talk about things that I wasnāt really interested in until he was called by an acquaintance.
Freed from Walt, I decided to take my leave. The party was of no worth to me. Taking the big first step in pulling away filled me with satisfaction.
It was when I was walking alone in the corridor to the exit.
āSherry!ā
I reflexively turned towards the voice. It was a voice I wouldnāt mistake for the entirety of my life.
Suddenly, Noel appeared. He seemed to be chasing after me. His soft silver hair looked a little disturbed.
That was my first time seeing him like that. I couldnāt hide my shock. Was the strategy of pulling away effective?
Although my heart raced like mad, my face, which was reflected on the window, was horribly flat.
ā…Why didnāt you greet me today?ā
āThereās no rule that said Iām obliged to do so. I just didnāt feel like talking to you.ā
A surprisingly cold voice flowed from my mouth without permission. I hurriedly closed my mouth. Noel, whom was in front of me, looked utterly surprised by my words.
I couldnāt stop sweatingāthe effect of the spell was stronger than I expected!
Rather than pulling away, that was just asking for a fight!
At that rate, Iād end up being hated!
āDid I do anything to bother you?ā
āNothing at all.ā
ā…Then, why?ā
āNo reason at all.ā
Noel seemed to be quite confused by me, who had a different attitude than usual. Gradually, his expression turned into a sad, hurtful, one.
Looking at him like that, my chest was about to tear. No moreāI couldnāt say anymore cold words to Noel. Thinking so, I decided to escape from that place.
āIām sorry. My carriage awaits.ā
With that said, I bowed to him, turned around, and hurriedly took my leave.

The next day, I couldnāt stop thinking about the previous night. I continued to suffer from chest pain. For making Noel sad, I deserved to die. However, I was supposed to attend the evening party with my boss tonight, as well. After greeting everyone properly, I was thinking of going home secretly.
At the venue, Noel, whom I had just met yesterday, was also there. He was in casual attire. I didnāt think Iād meet him at such a small evening party and froze.
I was afraid of spouting heartless words like yesterday, so I turned around, and moved to a secluded place. When I glanced at him, he was surrounded by many gorgeous women and my heart ached.
āWould you like to dance with me?ā
āEh? Oh, yes, gladly.ā
When I was standing alone by the wall, I was suddenly called out to. He was a decent looking man, probably about my age. He smiled happily when he heard my answer.
I gently laid my hand on top of his outstretched hand and went to the center of the hall.
āI always thought that your smile was adorable, but Iām aware that you had something for Lord Anderson, so I gave up.ā
āI, is that so?ā
āYes, but when I saw that you werenāt talking to him today, I took it as an opportunity.ā
I was embarrassed to learn that my feelings for Noel were no longer a surprise for anyone. At the same time, I was also surprised that there was a man who thought I was adorable.
While taking light steps to the music, I realized that it had been a while since I had danced with a man.
The man who invited me to a dance was called Craig. He seemed to be the son of a viscount. Every time our eyes met, heād laugh bashfully. I wondered if I was like that before Noel.
After finishing the dance, he stayed by my side, and we talked about various things happily. I thought that he was a very nice person, but it seemed that I couldnāt consider anyone other than Noel as a man.
āSherry, youāre here, too.ā
My heart bounced when Noel suddenly appeared.
I wanted to cry that he still treated me so kindly after my horrendous treatment yesterday. I wanted to scream my love for him, but it was as if my throat was blocked.
āWhy donāt we talk a little, if you like?ā
āIām sorry, but Iām talking to him right now.ā
For Noel to ask me to talkāit was like a dream come true. But, as usual, my lips spun such heartless words. I felt like crying.
When I looked up at Noel, thinking that heād hate me, any trace of expression had left his face.
ā…It seems that youāve betrayed me.ā
āEh?ā
Noel turned his back on me and started walking away.
It was the first time I saw him make such a faceāhe was definitely angry. I just wanted to be liked by him, so why did this happenā!?
As I stared at his back, tears spilled out of my eyes.
***T/N: Bruh… how is any of this her fault, tho? You were just gone one day, without ever actually affirming that the two of you are a thing, but you expect her to wait for your ass for 3 goddamn years. Also, during those three years, have you ever send her a letter to show that you actually care?
I MEAN, IF I WENT TO TAEHYUNG OPPA MEET AND GREET, AND I PROCEEDED TO SAY THINGS LIKE, “OPPA YOU’RE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. OPPA I WILL STAY LOYAL TO YOU FOREVER. OPPA YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE FOR ME. OPPA YOU CAN STEP ON ME.” THEN HE BE LIKE, “Never forget those words.” WHILE GIVING ME A HANDSHAKE, I WON’T IMMEDIATELY ASSUME WE’RE GOING TO GET HITCHED, AND STAY CELIBATE FOR THE NEXT FIFTEEN YEARS PINNING FOR HIM–Wait, I would, but, I mean–
–I MEAN, IF SHE DID MOVE ON FROM YOU TO ANOTHER GUY, YOU CAN’T BLAME HER FOR FINDING HAPPINESS WHEN YOU GIVE NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER THAT YOU FELT SOMETHING FOR HER.
Three years are a long period of time bruh, you expect her to keep beating herself until she’s black and blue over you???????
*P.S: Did that wizard jiji based his spell on passive aggressive gf who usually went;
Bf: Is sth on your mind babe.
Gf: I’m fine.
Bf: I’ll go to sleep then.
Gf: K.
Bf: Okay.
Gf: SEE, THIS IS THE PROBLEM IN OUR RELATIONSHIP!!!!!!
***E/N: I mean, just show him the book??
Wow, entitled much Noel?
Duh, she’s confessed her feelings for you for years but you never gave her affirmation…you just kept her hanging and second guessing everything
You 2 aren’t together so how did she betray you?
I MEAN, IF I WENT TO TAEHYUNG OPPA MEET AND GREET, AND I PROCEEDED TO SAY THINGS LIKE, āOPPA YOUāRE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. OPPA I WILL STAY LOYAL TO YOU FOREVER. OPPA YOUāRE THE ONLY ONE FOR ME. Translator?!?!?
Tht translators note is so accurate! ?
I was kinda down after the chapter but the TL note made me laugh my ass off ???
Tl’s not wrong but if it was Taehyung well that’s another story lol
Gee i agree on the tl note and the previous comment…. you never made your feeling or your relationship clear so you effing have no right to be mad if she and her love changed. My dude, even after you came back you never made anything clear between the two of you. And you somehow always surrounded by ladies so ofc the girl would be insecure
Dude… seriously dude… “it seems that you have betrayed me”… no, it only seems like you have taken her for granted!
Also yes, wizard jiji is defo playing some passive aggressive spells right into his customers ?
