3. The Knight Leader is Actually Popular
After being punched in the face with an exile and the cancellation of my engagement, I was about to leave the castle.
“I wonder what should I do from now on…~”
I couldn’t stay in that kingdom anymore.
I had no other choice but to move to another kingdom.
“At times like this, I wish I know someone…”
But I could think of nobody.
I had inherited the role of the saint when I was a little soon after my mother died.
Since then, most of my time had been spent inside the castle, praying for the kingdom.
Despite so, I still attended dance parties properly, you know?
But my fiancé was Claude. I couldn’t dance with other wonderful people and could only eat in the corner.
“Tohoho, I regret not making any acquaintances back then…”
When I was at loss…
“L, Lady Saint!?”
Suddenly screaming, a man approached me.
“Knight Leader…”
“What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be praying…?”
Apparently, the Knight Leader knew nothing about my exile.
Because he usually wore a helmet, I rarely saw his face—but unexpectedly, he was good-looking.
However, he seemed to be frequently lamenting in bars saying, ‘I am not popular with women…’—turned out he wasn’t aware of it.
The Knight Leader seemed to have a lot of closeted fans in the church, but when I told him that, he wouldn’t believe me.
“Knight Leader, you will be informed of this later, but I am to be exiled from this kingdom.”
“Huh!?”
“Incidentally, my engagement with Prince Claude was also annulled.”
When I told him that, the Knight Leader was surprised.
“B, but the saint is a presence who supports this kingdom from the shadows… It’s because of the prayers of the saint that the knights have easier lives… has Prince Claude gone crazy?”
The Knight Leader was staggered.
Ever since I had become the saint, the Knight Leader had always been concerned about me.
He seemed to have a good understanding of my ability and always supported me.
“Even if you say that, to me, Prince Claude has always been out of it since the beginning…”
I shrugged my shoulders.
“If you’re exiled… won’t this kingdom experience mayhem? The fact that demons have not rioted in this kingdom is because you’ve been putting up barriers…”
“Then, do you want to leave this kingdom as well? I am sure it will be fun.”
I seriously tried to invite him.
Despite so.
“I am sorry. I am the knight who serves the king, as such, I can’t abandon this kingdom so easily. I am sorry that I can’t fulfil your expectations, Lady Saint.”
He bowed deeply.
Ah, too bad.
But that kind of seriousness was a good aspect for a knight leader.
I felt bad for him, but I couldn’t help it, there was no way Claude would retract his words.
“It’s fine, I am merely joking.”
Although I appeared strong, at the bottom of my heart, I was hurt—
—I thought I was about to obtain a trustworthy ally…!
“So, Lady Saint, where are you heading to?”
***T/N: The Knight Leader is quite nonchalant about her, the Saint, leaving, which makes me think: a.) Her leaving might not be as dire as I thought, at least the kingdom won’t instantly be reduced to ash the moment she left??? b.) He cares more about her well-being rather than the advantage the kingdom would get with her there as the Saint–
––which means indeed, he’s a great catch!!!
Knights swear allegiance to the king, and in real life were loyal to the king, not the people, furthermore, especially when said knight is in the castle, their primary tasks involve serving the king, not the people. Also also you keep ragging on about the saintess being heartless, however you havent actually thought about what would happen if she stayed: she would potentially be executed, in which case some other little girl would be chosen by the forces of this world(worldbuilding thats been stated so far amirite) and then promptly executed because according to the royal crown prince the actual saintess is his current hoe, repeat ad infinitum until someone smart leaves to avoid a death that was forced upon them by the forces of the world or the king dies and someone not like him replaces him. Or she would be living in secret, suffering daily to make ends meet moneywise(medieval setting its worse than being poor in the modern age), whilst doing all the stuff to keep the kingdom safe, all whilst avoiding literally anyone with a modicum of power in this setting so that she DOESNT get executed. But what you’ve also forgotten is that the people who become saintess’s DO NOT CHOOSE to become saintess, it is UNWILLINGLY thrust upon them, wherein the royal family then throws the power of being at the top of the family to force the saintess to marry them. So the fact she managed to stay for this long is truly a miracle, as i guarantee you that you yourself in similiar situation would decide that your life was more important than an untold amount of future saintess’s(most likely of the innocent little girl status) being brutally murdered just because the powers of a saintess were thrust upon them by the forces of the world WITHOUT their opinion on the matter.
This chapter shows that she does not get credit. Fuck the country.
This chapter seems to hint at the author simply being bad at writing… that or he wanted us to think of the Knight Leader as a bad person? When invited by the Saintess to leave with him… his reason for not doing is is not because of that he wants to protect the innocent people from the demons… but because… he served the king? The hell? I mean, sure a knight would talk about serving the kingdom, but if you want readers to actually see the Knight as a “good guy”, then he should have placed the plight of the people above his own duty. I.E there not being a kingdom if there were no people in it.
Well, this chapter showed us that indeed… the Saintess had not interacted with people other than some knights and some nobles at a dance party so her being a complete sociopath does fit… doesn’t make her any more likeable, but there we have it.
since the author is “bad at writing” as you say so stop reading!!!
we don’t want boring people here go look for a story that has something to your liking
Shh, don’t encourage people to stop reading. More views are always good~
fufufu~
Yeah, I agree. They have probably taken the peace created by the saint for granted and probably think it’ll be fine for the saint to leave. Also what the heck is the King doing allowing the Prince to make such decisions lol
There’s an absence of logic here… The king is the ruler not the prince…they are just going to let the saint bugger off because of that shit? If they let her go then they deserve their fate… But that makes no sense… This is like removing a dam wall and replacing it with a twig… Who would accept that?
I think he didn’t panic that much about her leaving because the whole ‘Saint’ thing is probably religious. It is said that the Saint is the only thing that protects the kingdom, but there’s no actual truth since the Saint has never left. So a lot of it probably think it’s a myth or made-up. Like in real history some kings and emperors said they were gods reborn as men, or the voice of god, etc, but it was just propaganda to give themselves importance. Maybe normal people think it’s the same with the Saint and don’t realize it’s real?
Or he doesn’t how to react because the kingdom had never been barrier-less before. The people in that kingdom probably know in theory what will happen but have never experienced the real hell without a barrier before. It’s like people who often think they can do this or that to survive a disaster but when the real thing breaks out, they would be completely immobilized from the shock instead.
Thank you, nice. Hope she will soon catch the eye of some nice handsome prince/king/knight in another country and have fun…. 🙂
Why does it always have to come to that? Can’t she just enjoy her free time in peace, away from politics?
Well, for me at least it’s more fun, when there are cool guys after our girl, she does not need to fall in love, but it’s plus. I’m always in for good romance
since the knight isn’t really panicking much i’d like to think of it as welp we’re all screwed and i gotta stay here, at least i’ll get to see the prince hung or killed if i stick around.
I would too, if I were him, but I’d at least prepare an escape route. Keeping quiet about the saint leaving the country forever is no small matter…
Keeping quiet… But she is exiled. Isnt it only natural for her to leave forever.
Exactly, and it’s no small matter, the king needs to know as soon as possible. Although, if the king knew about it from the start and did nothing, then I can see where the prince gets his intellect from…
I think I understand why Eliane feels no attachment to the kingdom. It’s pretty clear that her actions are heavily micromanaged and she probably couldn’t go out and actually see the kingdom very often.
and we now know that she have no familly attachement and was only see as a tool. But that knight need to leave too ( probably exiled by that stupid prince because he will protest to him or because he is on good term with her)
What if he secretly sends he with a friend to an allied nation that needs a saint’s help, while also informing the king? That way she is able to keep helping people, they will know where she is, she is safe and the king has time to sort out his son.
Well seeing the raws something similar happens
No spoiler k ^_^
sorry
So, now we just wait for the knight leader to report this to the king, then we can watch the prince get punished, the fake saint get executed and the MC pulled back into the fray?
Or is he gonna let her get out of there and keep it a secret that the saint is gone? In which case he might want to start really preparing his knights for the fight of their lives. And get himself prepared for losing his job for not reporting something this serious…
Above his paygrade. The Prince is going to have to be the one making the report lol. And depending on if the King has any brains, will either end up in the Prince and his paramour being deported or executed.
Thanks for the chapter.
The prince is an idiot lol. I feel sad for the kingdom but with THAT as the king, the kingdom is doomed anyways. How the heck does a Prince does not know the duty of a Saint.
What an idiot.
