17. The Returnee Noble Lady (16)
Jill and Sufia, both were tied up with rope and were thrown into a warehouse beside the cathedral.
āStay here and be quiet! Oi, did you find that little girl yetā!?ā
āNot yet, I asked the guard and he said he didnāt know.ā
āJ, ju, just so you know, I, Iām Marquis Veilās daughterā¦ā
Both Sufiaās voice and body were trembling. A mercenary disguised in the uniform of the Northern Division ridiculed her.
āOops, it seems that I failed to explain it to you. Listen, youāre a hostage, Lady Sufia. Keep quiet until your turn comes.ā
āM, my turnā¦? Wh, what could you be planning?ā
āWe came from Kratos under the guide of a certain girl.ā
Sufia lifted her face, frowning.
āN, no way! Could it be, itās the same girl Hadith returned withā!?ā
āExactly! What was her name again⦠Jill! Your Emperor is an utter fool, to be deceived by a kid like that!ā
āD, donāt you dare insult Hadith-samaā!!ā
Suddenly, Sufia, who was trembling a second ago, declared.
āI, It is as I thoughtā¦! Deep down, I just knew itā¦! Besides, Hadith-sama isnāt in the wrong! Itās the one who fooled him whoās in the wrong! Other than that, I do think that girl is ill-natured, yes, but not to this extentā¦!ā
However, the mercenary only shrugged Sufiaās claims and turned his heels on her.
Jill used her entire body to support Sufia.
āT, th, thank youā¦ā
āNo problem.ā
āI, Iām so sorry, forgive me⦠a boy this small also got captured because of me⦠if, if only I was under fourteen years old, then Hadith-sama might not have been deceived by such a mean girl!ā
Sufia burst into tears, however, judging by the overall situation, she was quite under control.
Iām sure sheās having a hard time, but it helps that she isnāt becoming hystericalā¦
Left alone with Sufia in the warehouse, Jill scanned her vicinity.
Other than a few things, it was mostly empty. There was a small window placed high near the ceiling, however, only large enough for a child to pass through.
It seemed that they were only separated from the outside by a single iron door. Their only source of illumination was the sunbeam entering through said small window. The interior of the warehouse was dim even though it was noon.
Jill couldnāt escape just like that. If she want to free Sufia along with her, she would need manpower. She also needed to know the number of enemies. What she required the most was information.
ā¦theyāre trying to make a spy out of me. I need to grasp the enemyās entire plan if I want to reverse itā¦!
Unfortunately for them, Jill had escaped the confinement room and was caught along with Sufia. They must be experiencing some confusion right now.
Both Sufia and the mercenaries from before thought she was a boy. Her disguise was still safe.
First, she should gather as much information as she can from Sufia.
āLady Sufia, why did you visit this place today?ā
āBecause⦠Father told me to talk to the Priest regarding Hadith-samaās predicament so that the Priest could offer him a prayer⦠he even readied a carriage for meā¦ā
āSpeaking of which, whereās your attendant? If youāre the daughter of the Marquis, then you should at least be followed by one to the cathedralā¦ā
āā¦maybe they all got captured too. Youāre awfully calm arenāt you? Arenāt you the slightest bit afraid?ā
It was unknown for how long Sufia had stopped crying, but she was now staring at Jill.
Jill too, realized her attitude was far from being childish. Not that she could help it, considering the situation.
āY, yes, well, this kind of thing happened often where I come fromā¦ā
āI see⦠Arenāt I no good? All I did was panicā¦ā
āNot really. I think youāre managing well on your own.ā
āDonāt worry about me. I was just crying a little. Itāll be alright, Iām sure Father and Hadith-sama will rescue us soon.ā
āI canāt help but be curious, why do you believe in Hadith-sama so much? That⦠I heard youāre his fiancĆ©e candidateā¦ā
Blinking, Sufia smiled bitterly.
āā¦you see, I like dragons.ā
Dragons? Jill repeated. Dragons are only born in the Rave Empire and who receive the divine protection from the Dragon God that watches over the sky. Till that moment, Jill had only seen dragons on the battlefield.
ā¦thinking about it, in the future, I might be able to meet or even ride a dragon!
As Jill pondered, Sufia gazed far away.
āFar in the northeast, near the villa of Marquis Veil, there is a place said to be where dragons gather. My mother died when I was born, and I since grew up in the mansion. However, I didnāt belong in the mansion. As such, I often fled to the dragonās gathering place. If it was that place, my tutors would be reluctant to come after meābesides, they all sneered at me, anyway, because my Father abandoned me.ā
Since there were no dragon in Kratos, Jill didnāt know anything about their habitatāis it supposed to be a dangerous place?
Seeing Jillās concern, Sufia grinned mischievously.
āI know that dragons are dangerous creatures. Theyāre also Dragon God Raveās underlings. Yet, Iāll have you know that Iāve been speaking with them ever since I was still a child!ā
āSpeak with themāthe dragons!?ā
āAlthough I didnāt understand what they was saying⦠nevertheless, I felt like they were greeting me. I didnāt feel unsafe at all. I was so happy, I felt like they listened to my every word! Ever since that day, Iāve talked to the dragons every dayārumors began to circulate that Iām a woman with a screw loose. One who claims she is able to talk to dragons and whatnot.ā
Suddenly, Sufiaās gaze dulled.
āEveryone shunned me, and when I had already given up on any notion of getting marriedāHadith-sama, who had just become an Emperor, wanted to see me. All thanks to the rumors!ā
From that day on, Sufia went happily. Everyoneās treatment of her changed dramatically.
Marquis Veil summoned Sufia home and prepared her to meet Hadith. All the etiquette and lessons she had painstakingly learned turned out to not be so useless after all. Albeit her stepmother and stepsister still acted coldly towards her, Sufia believed if she worked hard and proved herself to be an asset to the Marquis, it could lead to the deepening of their relationshipsā
āāI was determined to do my best to get engaged with Hadith. But, in front of everyone, Hadith asked meāāCan you see something on my shoulder?āā
āafter he had heard to the rumors, Hadith must had expected Sufia to be able to perceive Rave.
āI couldnāt see anything.ā
Sounding a little miserable, Sufia laughed.
**T/N: … … … WHAT!? THEN SUFIA IS GOING TO BECOME A DECENT, GOOD HEARTED, LOVE RIVAL!? HOW AM I GOING TO HATE HER!??!?!?!?! *got shot through the chest by the blinding light that is her decent-ness
No entiendo.
Si no puede ver a los dragónes entonces significa que ella hablaba con…
Nadie. ĀæEstĆ” loca?
Everyone can see normal dragons. But not Rave. Rave is a special kind of entity.
Mscourne, try kingdom of everlasting night! It has the same vibe as the day i disappeared
No es que no dragones, es que no puede ver a Rave. Ella si ve los dragones normales~
A brief list of what I hate:
1. Idiots
2.THOTs
3. A-hole dads or parents
I am sorry but as it turns out Sufia is an idiot the thing I hate more than THOTs. And it seems she does not really view Hadith as a love interest but something to use to gain her father’s approval and was just made to believe that she does love Hadith hence the reason Hadith does not want to make her even a concubine. Which is a good choice if you ask me cause keeping an idiot by your side would be very bad
and claiming that you can speak with the dragons is very bad……Sufia raised Hadith’s hope real high just to drop him so fiercely from the sky……..
And why can’t Sufia realize how suspicious everything is. Why the heck would they look for Jill like they want to capture her if they are really sent by her? Why would they tell her that they were sent by the girl they would not say who the mastermind is just like that if they really were sent by Jill and why does her father gave her such a command as if he is concerned about her and her servants suddenly disappeared as soon as shit went down??????
WHY IS SUFIASUCH AN IDIOT THAT SHE CANNOT ASK THOSE QUESTIONS????? SE GOT MALTREATED BY HER FAMILY HER WHOLE LIFE YET SHE STILL BELIEVES THEM!!!!!!!! I KNOW YOU ARE INNATELY GOOD BUT THAT HELPS YOU FORM A LITTLE TO NONE IN YOUR SITUATION SUFIA!!!!!!!
Okay, so Sufia is just a bit silly sidekick with some quirks of her own and defo some grievances as well.
Thanks for chapter.
It simple… if she can’t became Hadith wife, she can became Jill wife??
Same translator-san. Same. In the end, she was just an unloved child
I agree with you. I like Sufia now…thanks for the chapter.
Poor girl .. somehow She seems so pitiful.. anyway thanks for this chapter! Im hoping for the action / escape plan in the next one
