Gaiden 4: Like Parent and Child
On a certain day,
“Nii-ni! Eliane-onee-chan! Cecily is going to watch this together with you!”
Cecily-chan came over to us while saying that. Clutched in her right hand seemed to be a flyer.
“That is…?”
“It’s a stage show of Magical Sentai Prism! As a Prism fan, I can’t miss this!”
Magical Sentai… somehow, that name gives me various worries.
On the flier I received from Cecily-chan was a picture of five girls striking poses. What’s more, the five of them were wearing mysterious head pieces that obscured their faces. It was a rather peculiar composition.
“Cecily-chan, you like this sort of thing?”
“Yeah!”
Cecily-chan’s eyes were sparkling brightly.
Ugh… so cute. Whenever I see that expression, I feel like doing whatever she asks.
“And it’s today too… around noon? That’s pretty sudden.”
Nigel leans in to peek at the flyer from beside me and lets out a “Hmm.”
“Let’s go-! If you say no, Cecily will go by herself!”
“No! That’s absolutely a no!”
A cute girl like Cecily-chan going out alone… it isn’t impossible that she’d get caught up in some sort of crime.
Moreover, I sometimes forget, but she’s the first princess of this country. She has the added danger of being kidnapped atop of what a normal person would face.
“Looks like it can’t be helped. I’m curious about this Magical Sentai thing too, so shall we go together?”
Cecily-chan’s expression brightened even more after I said that.
Curses… sorcerers,
Words like those bring up bad memories for me, but my feelings are a bit mixed. Maybe it’s a morbid curiosity… but I’m interested.
“Nigel… it’s probably impossible for you? You must be busy with work.”
“Yeaah, that’s exactly it…”
Nigel seemed to be deep in thought.
In that case, will it just be the two of us, Cecily-chan and I, going out?
Just as I was thinking that,
“No! nii-ni goes too! There’s no point if not!”
Cecily-chan tugged at the hem of Nigel’s clothes with those words.
“No point? What do you mean by that?”
“Stop hemming and hawing, we’re go-ing!”
Cecily-chan puffed out her cheeks with a “pukuu.”
Where in the world did she learn an expression like that?
“Well… taking a break once in a while isn’t bad. Fortunately, my official duties have calmed down for now. Something like this should be fine.”
“Ya-y!”
Cecily-chan raised both her hands in joy.
I’m also delighted. Nigel is coming with us.
In high spirits, we headed toward the central plaza of the city where the stage show was being held.
*****
“Nugh! So, you’ve come again, Magical Sentai Prism! What troublesome pests!”
“So long as evil exists in this world! We, Prism, will appear anywhere!”
“Because that is… the duty of Prism!”
The excitement of the stage show had reached its peak. On the special stage was a group of five girls (who as expected had their faces hidden by masks). Glaring at them was a man wearing a villainous-looking mask. Then, the battle began.
The Prism Sentai engaged the villain in an action sequence as they moved around the stage, when…!
“Ahh! Impossible! Such power!”
“Where did this sort of power even come from!?”
“If this keeps up, we’re going to lose!”
One of the Prism Sentai falls to the ground.
They seem to be struggling against their enemy.
“Everyone in the audience! Lend us your strength! If you do, our curse power will build up!”
That’s a bit too expository… but pointing that out would be unsophisticated.
Actually, what even is curse power? It’s way too disturbing.
When one of the Prism Sentai called out to the audience, everyone began cheering them on in unison.
““““Don’t give up, Pri-sm!””””
From beside me, Cecily-chan also clenched her fists,
“Don’ gib u-p!”
She cared for them with all her might.
“Nii-ni! onee-chan! What are you doing!? If you two don’t cheer too, Prism is going to lose, you know? Are you really okay with that?”
“Yo-You’re right. Do your be-st, Prisim!”
“Please don’t lose, Prism!”
—Please don’t lose to such a cowardly enemy!
Before I knew it, I had become emotionally invested in the Prism Sentai.
And maybe our cheers reached them…
“Kuaaaaa!”
This time, the person playing the villain cried out and collapsed.
“Ku, you’re pretty good, Prism Sentai. But! We shall not perish here! As long as there is darkness in this world, we will never cease!”
“Wait right there!”
One of the Prism Sentai tried to chase after him, but the villain dashed offstage before she could.
“We let him get away again…”
“Either way, we were able to win the battle! Thank you, everyone! We were able to win thanks to all of you!”
And so, Magical Sentai Prism came to its grand finale in the highest of spirits.
*****
“That was really fun, right…?”
Once the stage show ended and everyone was scattering from the venue, I spoke to Cecily-chan, still somewhat excited.
“Yeah! Prism really is the best! I’m going again next time too!”
“Speaking of which… when is the next stage show?”
Nigel asked Cecily-chan with a slightly apprehensive tone.
“In one week!”
“O-One week!? Isn’t that much too soon?”
“Nii-ni still doesn’t understand Prism at all. I mean, Prism’s enemies are all over the world, you know? Prism are super busy!”
“Ri-Right…”
Nigel gave a wry smile.
At any rate, I was glad to see that Cecily-chan was completely satisfied.
And also…
“We’ll go see Prism in action again in a week! Cecily-chan, let’s go together next time too!”
Of course!”
Cecily-chan beamed with an adorably wide smile.
“E-Eliane, Prism Sentai really seems to have grown on you, hasn’t you?”
“Naturally!”
I leaned forward as I replied to Nigel.
At first, I was just accompanying Cecily-chan. But as I kept watching the theater show, little by little, Prism Sentai’s charm started to reach me too. Before I knew it, just like Cecily-chan, I was earnestly cheering for the Prism Sentai.
“Shouldering the fate of being a sorcerer, yet always looking forward with an unyielding spirit. When someone is in trouble, they rush to help no matter where. The greatest heroes, the Prism Sentai. There’s also friendship… sometimes, even tales of romance… it’s a story overflowing with ideas, there really aren’t many like it out there!”
“Tha-That’s true.”
Nigel was overwhelmed by my intensity when I got carried away and started speaking passionately.
“Well, if Eliane and Cecily had fun, then I’m happy too. Especially since nothing happened…”
Certainly,
Nigel and Cecily-chan, the prince and princess of this country, are both here together. Well, the way I see it, regardless of what could have happened, if Nigel and I are present, we could have handled it.
Besides,
“Wouldn’t you say my disguise isn’t half bad? Look, nobody seems to have noticed me.”
Nigel spoke with a smug expression.
The current Nigel was wearing glasses, and his clothing was plainer than usual. If he had come in his usual appearance, it would have caused a commotion. Hence, he put on a light disguise and came like this.
That being said,
“Hy, over there…”
“Yeah, that really is His Highness Nigel, isn’t it? Why is he in a place like this?”
“Let him spend his rare day off however he wants. Besides… it seems he thinks no one has noticed him…”
Whispers like that could be heard from all around us.
Yeah,
Of course he’d be noticed.
“What’s the matter? You look like you want to say something…”
“No-Nothing at all!”
But when I see Nigel making that kind of face, it’s hard to point it out to him. Well… I suppose it’s fine like this.
“Well then, shall we head back soon? Staying out too long is also…”
“Wait!”
Cecily-chan stops Nigel as he was about to suggest we return home.
“That ice cream over there, I want to try it! Let’s eat that together!”
“Eh? Ah, alright.”
Cecily-chan forcefully pulls on Nigel’s arm. An ice cream stall could be seen in the direction she pointed. Nigel is also overwhelmed by her childlike behavior.
“Can’t be helped… Eliane, will you have some too?”
“Yes!”
Nodding, I followed along after Nigel and Cecily-chan.
