35.2 Charlotte: Chapter 4, Episode 9
She had fallen into a precarious situation. She mustn’t let it escalate any further.
Making such calculations as she was, she couldn’t help but laugh at her own cold-heartedness. She was worried about the impact it’d have on her plan rather than her own sister.
…I guess I do share that man’s blood.
Frederick only cared about Juliet and paid Charlotte no heed, while Charlotte was so focused on her plan that she considered Juliet a danger to it. She inherited not only his appearance, but also his nature.
How hilarious! She covered her hand with her mouth to hide her smile.
At any rate, she had to rescue Juliet right away.
“Lord Ethelbert, can we capture that man without letting Juliet be harmed?”
“With a sword pointed at her from such a close distance, it’s impossible to say for sure. Yes, we can capture him, but the Second Princess might end up cutting cut as well. To ensure that she’s unharmed, he has to turn his sword elsewhere, even for just a moment.”
The reply resonated directly in her mind. Seeing Charlotte covering her mouth, Ethelbert judged that she was trying not to let anyone know what she was saying.
Charlotte stared at Malcolm. His hand, wielding the sword, was trembling. Fear was in his gaze.
Although he was acting impulsively, he still seemed to have some rationality left.
The sword’s target… to distract him…
Juliet was too scared to move. In other words, she had no time to do anything unnecessary or unpredictable—which was convenient.
Charlotte sighed and took a step forward.
“Princess Charlotte?”
Ethelbert’s voice resonated with her again. Everyone stared at her.
“I told you not to move!”
Malcolm noticed too.
“Malcolm Elms.”
As she spoke his name, Malcolm brought the blade of his sword even closer to Juliet’s neck. Juliet gasped, and Quentin cried hysterically, “Your Highness Juliet!”
Charlotte continued walking slowly, not caring about that.
“Are you aware? Juliet dreams of a marriage where she loves and is loved like it was for her parents. A relationship where all love each other wholeheartedly.”
Provoking Malcolm who lacked composure was easy. He had already proven that he would easily lose his senses when it came to Juliet. All she had to do was take advantage of that.
“Men who have relationships with multiple women at the same time are the type that Juliet despises the most, so…”
She stopped walking and taunted him with a smile.
I’ll be fine…
That man was cowardly at heart. Charlotte had witnessed many times that a person’s true nature didn’t change that easily.
No matter how upset he got, no matter how out of control he was—he couldn’t hurt the woman he loved.
“—She would never love a degenerate like you!”
“Shut up!!”
Malcolm shouted, swinging his sword down. A faintly glowing blade of wind flew towards Charlotte.
“Brandon!”
“Understood!”
After hearing the voices of Ethelbert and Brandon, a thin, sheath-like barrier appeared in front of Charlotte, blocking the approaching wind blade. At the same time, glowing chains appeared from underneath Malcolm’s feet, restraining him.
“Aaaah!”
The same chains also wrapped around Juliet, separating her from Malcolm. Even though she had been rescued, her face was still pale. Perhaps it was because of the mysterious chain and the fact that she was being carried in the air.
“Lady Juliet…! Damn! Release me!”
Upon realizing that Juliet had been snatched from him, Malcolm began thrashing around. However, the glowing chains only tightened, especially the ones around his wrist.
“Argh!”
Malcolm groaned as the sword slipped from his hand and fell onto the ground.
“Stay quiet for a while.”
“Waaaaahhh!!!”
As soon as Ethelbert spoke, electricity ran through the chains, causing Malcolm to cry out. He was enveloped in pale lightning, and when it subsided, he collapsed against the ground, unconscious.
The chains seemed to have been made of Ethelbert’s magic. In other word, the translucent barrier that protected Charlotte was probably something Brandon had created.
Juliet was carried by chains and lowered near Charlotte and the others. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she collapsed.
“Your Highness Juliet!”
Quentin immediately ran over to her. Even though he was wobbling, the speed he moved with was incredible.
“Are you hurt?”
“Waaah!”
Juliet nodded vigorously and hugged Quentin. She began crying like a toddler.
Charlotte breathed a sigh of relief that Juliet was safe.
