The Death of Princess Charlotte Translation

4.2 Charlotte: Chapter 1, Episode 3

She should’ve been relatively free that week. Instead, that happened. As usual, she ended up with a schedule that only allowed her a nap or so.

After receiving her instructions, Charlotte made preparations to go out. Of course, it wasn’t just about going out, but also about moving to improve work efficiency.

Since she couldn’t take important documents outside, Charlotte was very selective about what she brought with her.

At this moment, Juliet and Quentin are probably dawdling around the castle town.

Meanwhile, Charlotte was forced to clean up their mess.

Don’t accept something you can’t do on a whim.

Instead of getting accustomed to a relatively easy projects and gradually increasing the level, Juliet would take on projects that were beyond her capabilities before ultimately abandoning them.

I don’t think that’s how a member of the royal family should behave.

In the end, it was just a fleeting motivation.

Juliet’s volunteering activities included visiting patients, offering gifts, and playing with children. In short, nothing that required thinking.

From the beginning, Charlotte already had an ominous feeling when Juliet accepted the hospital project. Who would have thought that everything would suddenly fall to Charlotte? No, maybe, that was the only thing that could happen.

Huff…

She had lost count over how many times she’d sighed. Nevertheless, reality wouldn’t change.

It wasn’t like no one had complained about Juliet’s behavior before. Her immaturity had long been a well-known fact among the upperclassmen. There were people who warned her despite being afraid of the king.

However, these people gradually came to accept Juliet’s immaturity. ‘It can’t be helped,’ they said. Then, they would shift their focus to Charlotte.

‘As her older sister, you should help Juliet.’

‘You should always look out for her.’

In the end, everything fell to Charlotte again. They no longer even recognized Juliet as a burden.

Juliet possessed a mysterious charm that made everyone like her. Perhaps, it was her friendly and innocent attitude. Someone that Charlotte wasn’t, and couldn’t imitate.

After everything was ready, Charlotte boarded a magnificent carriage and set out from the royal castle. Her destination was the National Library in the royal capital. In order to carry out her tasks in a private room there, she made various excuses, such as that she had something to research, and was allowed to go out.

She had a deadline to submit documents, and it’d take up some time for her to travel, but she didn’t mind. She could concentrate better when she wasn’t in the royal castle.

It wasn’t that she couldn’t work in the royal castle, but receiving a sudden and absurd order like that disoriented her. By physically distancing herself from the castle, she could regain peace of mind. That way, it’d take less time in total.

Being alone in the carriage made Charlotte felt somewhat less irritated, and when she reached her destination, she alighted from the carriage with the help of an escort.

She looked up at the National Library before her.

That historic library, one of the oldest in the kingdom, wasn’t open to commoners until the time of the previous king. That rule was based on the discriminatory idea that commoners had no need to learn. Even the Royal Chester Academy, which had been standing since the founding of the kingdom, hadn’t been open to commoners back then.

At present, like the academy, the library was largely open to commoners due to Frederick’s wishes. Nevertheless, there were also many areas that were limited only to people of noble status like Charlotte. That was because in addition to books with high historical value, priceless works of art were also kept there.

The National Library was spacious and had several private rooms. Deciding to move to a private room so that she could focus on the books she would be using as reference materials, Charlotte stepped into the building.

After exchanging a brief greeting with the librarian at the information counter, she was greeted by a row of bookshelves packed with a variety of books. A wide range of genres were available, from popular romance novels to specialized materials.

After walking a little further, she stopped and looked around the building, which was less crowded than usual. What caught her attention was the shelves of novels.

From time to time, she’d read popular romance novel without thinking too much about it. Given that she hadn’t read many novels, they were quite fascinating.

“Your Highness?”

“…It’s nothing.”

A guard called out to Charlotte, who was preoccupied by a certain bookshelf in the distance. Then, when she was about to walk towards the shelf she was aiming for—

“—What a strange coincidence, Your Highness Charlotte.”

A voice came from behind her, causing Charlotte to turn around in surprise.

Standing before her was a young man with a handsome, dignified face and a smile that was calm yet somehow tinged with amusement.
