The 800-Year-Old Villainess Translation

7: The Villainess is Awake

 ◆

She had to wake up early every day.

Without any time to perform a morning routine, she would only wash her face. Then, she would hurry to brew tea and deliver it to her twin sister’s—Neria’s—room. Only tea could rouse the sleeping Neria.

Once that was done, she would fetch Neria’s breakfast from the cafeteria. While Neria ate, she would look over the previous day’s homework. After breakfast, it would be time to get ready. She would help Neria get dressed and style her hair in a feminine way.

After their morning classes, their lunch break would begin. She had to serve Neria again. During meals, Neria would offer to assist the teacher. As a matter of course, she would be the one to do it.

When the afternoon classes ended, she would have to do both their homework assignments. Of course, if Neria asked her for something else, she would have to do it, too.

At night, after helping Neria bathe, she would carefully massage Neria and groom her hair.

What little remained of her free time would be used to read a few pages of a book she had borrowed from the library.

She would fall asleep the moment she touched the bed—

—Before she knew it, morning would arrive.

Living that kind of life, she didn’t have time to care about herself.

Even if she lacked magical power, studying magic in itself was fun. Even if she couldn’t cast a single spell, deciphering the mechanisms and formulas behind it was exciting. Just being able to immerse herself in such a fun study made her happy.

That’s right, I’m happy…

Even with disheveled hair. Even with a tattered uniform. Even with coarse hands.

Just being able to study magic, even if just a bit, already makes me happy.

…After all, I’m simply withered grass with no magic power…

“All right, this should be the last one…”

I cut off my bangs with a pair of scissors.

Thanks to Anita, I had learned how to groom myself and apply makeup. Nevertheless, it took me all night. Oh, but didn’t they say that lack of sleep is the enemy of your skin?

But I’ve been slumbering for the past 800 years, so give me a break.

Now, the sun had risen and it was time to return to the academy, but before that, I’d like to have some breakfast. Last night, Anita’s maid brought some food for me. Apparently, those who didn’t have a servant would go to the cafeteria to get something to eat.

“Like they say, you can’t fight on an empty stomach.”

Keeping the 800-year-old proverb in mind, I rushed out of my shabby room, scattering books everywhere.

[—Who are you…!? What, how did my hair…!?]

“Oh, you’re finally awake?”

I smiled bitterly at the shocked voice that came from within me.

Milady has woken up.

I tapped into my consciousness and spoke to her.

“Good morning. How are you feeling?”

[Huh, you can talk to me…?]

“Well, we’re sharing the same body, so of course I can.”

[Eh, uhm…]

From the looks of it, Cecily Travasta hadn’t fully registered the fact that she was being possessed by me.

Well, it can’t be helped. She just has to get used to it slowly.

—For the moment, I summarized what happened the day before.

So, without further ado, I began.

The girls who pushed her down the stairs ran away before I could ask for an explanation. A classmate, Eivind Dahl, helped me when I was injured. With the support of Eivind, I achieved a satisfactory result for the practical magic assignment. I annulled my engagement with her supposed fiancé, but then put it on hold. I befriended the girl who sat next to her, Anita. I took care of her appearance as best as I could.

After I was finished, Cecily was visibly shaken.

[I-in just half a day, you did ALL that…?]

“Well, that’s because I was having so much fun at the academy! After all, an eventful life is the best! By the way, it’s still in progress, but your skin is way silkier now!”

[B-but, my bangs… This appearance…]

Despite all the confusion, Cecily’s biggest shock seemed to be her bangs. I had trimmed them to just above her eyebrows. After all, hiding such a cute face was a complete waste. Although, if she disliked it that much, I’d have no choice but to grow it back…

Regardless, I didn’t really mind. I was anxious that I’d gotten ahead of myself by annulling her engagement, but it seemed that the thing that bothered her the most was her appearance.

She’s still a girl, after all…

From now on, I shall strive to make her look even prettier! I’d treat her body with care! I asked Cecily, rubbing my rough hands.

Ah, but can I continue borrowing your body? If you want to go back, always feel free to ask! It’s not something that I can force.”

[Oh, that’s…]

There’s no need to force yourself. All you have to do is rest until you feel like living on your own again. In the meantime, I’ll be sure to live to the fullest and enjoying my youth to the point that you’re green with envy and ask for your body back.

I smiled at Cecily, who hesitated.

“Whenever you ask for it, I’ll be sure to return your body. Don’t worry.”

Afterwards, I returned to reality.

“Time to eat!”

What should I have for breakfast today?

Last night, I had a hamburger made from legume called soybeans. After 800 years, the cuisine had basically improved to the point that I was inhaling my food! Excited to see what I could eat this morning, I went to the cafeteria.

For some reason, there was a girl waiting at the entrance, standing proudly.

She had green hair. Her features were a bit sharp, yet well-defined.

She looks familiar…

At the same time, [Cecily], who resided within me, began to cower.

[I-I hadn’t served her breakfast…]

“I take it that you know each other?”

In that case, I should greet her.

“Good morni—”

—but when I tried to shake her hand, the girl covered her mouth with her fan and chided me.

“Don’t ‘good morning’ me? Where’s my breakfast? In fact, where was my dinner? Do you want me to tell Papa!?”

“Eh, last I checked, I’m a student and not a servant?”

I was wearing a uniform. Just the other day, I was even studying in class.

In other words, [Cecily Travasta] was legitimately a student. It shouldn’t be her responsibility to take care of anyone other than herself…

Yet, Cecily was about to cry…

[Don’t…! You mustn’t speak that way to Neria…!]

Who is this Neria supposed to be?

[S-she’s my older sister… My twin, to be exact…]

I knew it. Cecily made it easier for me by answering these questions I had right away.

I see. I did hear that she was being used by her twin sister…

Sure enough, her twin sister began acting ridiculous.

“How impertinent!! Did you forget that in exchange for being admitted to this academy, you owe our parents to take care of me!? Also, what’s with that appearance…!? Keep that ugly face of yours out of sight!”

Wow, she sure has a LOT to say…

Anyway, since Cecily has awoken, I guess I should try to say something in return.

After all, there was no need to be afraid of a barking puppy.

“But why should I do that, Sister…?”
