The 800-Year-Old Villainess Translation

4: The Villainess Achieves Spectacular Results in Class

Even as I made my way to the classroom, I was stared at by those around me.

However, Eivind didn’t pay them any heed and led to my chair in the classroom.

“My seat at the front of the class. If you have any trouble, ask me.”

“Thank you. I’m counting on you.”

He’s just messing around with Cecily, who apparently underwent a personality change, isn’t he?

Nevertheless, it’d be best if we took advantage of each other here. Still, the gazes of my surroundings were harsh…

That was how the class began.

A magic practical lesson… However, we weren’t doing anything flashy, just changing the color of a light. Eight hundred years ago, children as young as 5-years-old would be practicing that.

…I see, I see.

According to the modern theory of [spell craft], we had to extract and fuse fine particles in the atmosphere at the same time, so it seemed to be a highly complicated procedure. Moreover, depending on the color, different particles had to be extract. Therefore, it took a lot of concentration to create a beautiful color.

I see… Certainly, if each step is put into theory and the process behind each step explained, anyone would be able to magic regardless of their skill. It was much more open than the sorcery of 800 years ago, when there was a huge gap in ability depending on talent.

But isn’t this a technique that I proposed 800 years ago?

“All right, each of you are to demonstrate your polarization reaction!”

As I watched my classmates take turns demonstrating their abilites, the girl next to me started talking to me.

“Are you seriously taking the exam despite your lack of magic? Why don’t you just drop out already?”

A cute girl with blonde hair. She wore makeup that matched her uniform. I really want to befriend her! I responded with a smile. After all, my actions as a whole would affect the reputation of Cecily in the future.

“Thank you for your concern, but it’s none of your business?”

“…Let’s see if you can still act smug after this.”

Oh my, she clicked her tongue at me. Kids nowadays are mannerless.

However, she had a point. No matter how much I concentrated on Cecily’s body, I could only sense a faint presence of magic power. At the same time, the polarized light my classmates were demonstrating weren’t that impressive. Their colors were subtle, with little to no change…

Among them, a certain student managed to conjure a vivid illumination, causing everyone to erupt in cheers—Eivind Dahl. He effortlessly manipulated the light, showcasing seven colors for a period of time. Furthermore, the person himself was relaxed, with a smile hanging on his lips. Right after it was over, he winked at me and I smiled bitterly.

With that being said, my turn was right after the girl beside me. She didn’t seem to be that good at magic, either. In spite of that, after showing three colors, she harrumphed. Her gaze seemed to say, ‘You’ll regret ever saying those words to me!’

“Up next, Cecily Travasta!”

“Okay.”

When the teacher called me, I left my seat. As we passed each other, the girl from before kindly suggested, “Why don’t you just pretend to be sick now?”

I took a step forward and asked the teacher.

“So, I assume that the purpose of the test isn’t to gauge magic power, but to measure one’s capability?”

“That’s right, the size of the light doesn’t matter this time around. Even if it’s small, there won’t be any deductions—”

“—Then, can I rely on you this time?”

Naturally, I reached out to Eivind. It went without saying that he had the most abundant magic power here. As such, he shouldn’t mind if I borrow a bit…

“Do you mean to use my magic power?”

“Correct. I won’t do anything else. It’s for the exam.”

“Well, if the teacher allows it…”

When he glanced at the pulpit, the teacher said, “You can, but you aren’t allowed to do anything beyond that.” After we looked at each other, I took his hand.

—Afterwards, everything unfolded as I envisioned;

The classroom was basked in multi-colored brilliance. As it fluttered in the dark, the light in my mind took after the form of a butterfly. As it switched colors, the butterfly would perch on the shoulders and arms of the admiring students.

“…Beautiful.”

The same girl from before gasped.

Hmm, if she’s impressed with that, we might be able to get along after all.

Then, with the same light magic, I weaved the illusions of roses. In the blink of an eye, the teacher, with the butterfly perching on his head, begun to clap.

Yyou showed them how it’s done, Cecily Travasta!”

“Aw, just as we were getting to the good part…”

I lifted the spell and shrugged as our classroom reverted to its original, rustic appearance. Beside me, Eivind was also clapping.

“Amazing! I can’t believe you were this talented! If you had a bit more magic power, I’d have recommended you to the Royal Institute of Magic!”

“Can you do that?”

“I’m actually a full-time employee there.”

“Heh, I’ll keep that in mind.”

Judging from Eivind’s appearance, he didn’t seem to be affected by the magic.

My classmates had watched the scene with bated breath. After I returned to my seat, the teacher asked Eivind.

“The previous polarization reaction really wasn’t yours?”

“She merely borrowed my magic. The rest was all her.”

For the time being, I had established that I could still use magic. Although, I would also need to be supplied with magic power… Although once I became accustomed to it, I should be able to make ends meet with Cecily’s sparse magic power. Besides, it wasn’t like I didn’t have magic in the first place—I just had a hard time drawing it.

When I returned to my seat thinking everything would work out, the girl next to me glanced at me.

“What’s the matter?”

She pouted and turned away, “Nothing!”

I asked her.

“If you don’t mind, I have a favor to ask of you.”

What—!?”

“Can you tell me about the cosmetics you use later?”

At that question, she stuttered, before sulking at me. “…I’ll consider telling you!”
