84.1 The Final Days

Deception!  I was deceived!

What did she say?

Apparently, Mistral and everyone else knew about the tea party. She knew and teased me. How terrible.

I sulk.

The great wolf, magic beast was her accomplice. “Except, why did he show up at the royal villa?” Turns out Mistral told him to keep tabs on me and he will absolutely never disobey Mistral.

After confirming my situation, the great wolf, magic beast reported to Mistral. That guy, he didn’t show a single hint to such behavior when we met just earlier. I suppose that eccentricity is the so-called craftiness that should be expected of a magic beast.

Anyhow, my actions were known to some extent due to the great wolf magic beast. Although, he was also spotted by a guard with good intuition along the way, which caused that uproar. As a result, neither Mistral nor anyone else knows what happened afterwards.

I’d be a problem if they did…

“That’s terrible. Why was I being monitored for? Am I someone untrustworthy?”
“It’s not like that, wa. You’re misunderstanding. Instead of saying you were being monitored, I only wanted to know the movements of aristocrats from the human tribe.”
“What?”

I’m positive aristocrats from the human tribe attended the tea party, but I think the majority of attendees mostly consisted of the finest knight-sama specially selected by the Armand Kingdom and the Jortenitost Kingdom.

“Ernea, this is a serious conversation. Look, you recall how the mazoku tribe and some of the dragon tribesmen have been acting suspiciously since last year?”
“Yeah”

Mistral’s serious attitude clears away the doubt that she is teasing me again.

“I’m certain those dragon tribesmen are from a clan with secret connections to the mazoku tribe.

Apparently, Mistral hasn’t been able to come to the moss covered plaza since last year due to being busy investigating this.

“Except, for the mazoku tribe and dragon tribesmen to be colluding just to bring harm to kingdoms of the human tribe doesn’t make sense, wa. So, I am wondering if maybe they also have a collaborator within the human tribe.”
Ah.

My voice unintentionally escapes me when she points that out. So it’s like that. I understand Mistral’s thought process.

If some dragon tribesmen and those of the mazoku tribe really are colluding with one another, then the dragon tribesmen would at the same time be inviting harm to themselves. Betrayal, after all, is originally an action taken to harm your comrades. Yet, the unrelated human tribe is the side getting hurt, like with the demon sword wielders and that fake yuusha.

But what if I think about it like this? Instead, it’s the human tribe that is at fault and in the attempt to wreak havoc in a human tribe country, summoned the mazoku tribe. However, because the dragon tribesmen and dragon tribe are in the way, the mazoku tribe can’t easily come to the countries of the human tribe. So, if at that time the mazoku tribe and dragon tribesmen started communicating in secret, they’d have become able to easily reach the countries of the human tribe and do bad things.

“In other words, Mistral wanted to confirm if there were any human tribe members acting suspiciously at the tea party I was attending.”
“I was. Although if I were better versed in the customs of the human tribe, I might have been able to come up with other ways to probe them. It’s just, I don’t know of places where various members of the nobility gather.”
“So it was like that? Mistral, you thought the tea party was a place many aristocrats would gather?”
Fufufu, to be honest, it felt like a marriage interview.”
“Yep, that’s exactly it. I didn’t know until I got to the venue, either.”

Mistral thinks its nobles who are trying to cause a disturbance in the country of the human tribe. That is because even if something dangerous like a riot breaks out among the common people, no one will benefit. But if aristocrats are involved, they can hide within the confusion caused by the disturbance to raise their positions, and if things are handled poorly, someone might even aim for the throne.

As a result, at the tea party which appeared to be a gathering of nobles, the great wolf, magic beast seems to have been attached to me and made to observe the venue.

I guess it wasn’t me who was being watched, but the people there.

“Except the great wolf, magic beast was discovered by their remarkable soldiers.”
“Because I never expected that to be a place with those able to see through a magical beast’s mystic abilities.”

Mistral gives a wry smile.

“So, did you discover anything there?”
“Regrettably not.”

Mistral shrugs her shoulders.

“Although, I did receive a report about a person with strong dragon power, wa.”
Ah, that’s probably about the twin oujo-sama.”

I then tell Mistral about the twin oujo-sama and about the Armand Kingdom royal family.

“So it’s like that. Turns out there are members of the human tribe able to use dragon power other than you.”
“Looks like it.”

I was also surprised by the twin oujo-sama. To think there are members of the human tribe who not only possess dragon power, but are able to randomly launch a high ranking dragon technique like the dragon spear.

“You mean Yufelia and Niina?”
Gild-san, having been intently listening to what Mistral and I are discussing, cuts in.

“Now that you mention them, the twin oujo-sama also knew about Gild-san.”
“I suppose so. I met them a while ago back when they were still beginner adventurers.”
“What kind of people are they?”

Mistral asks with a great deal of curiosity.

How rare, to be showing interest in members of the human tribe. Maybe it’s because they can use dragon techniques?

“That is not the case. She merely fears the possible increase to the number of thou’s brides.”
“Venerable elder, be silent.”

Mistral glares at old Sleigstar for his sudden interjection and then at me too.

Why am I getting glared at for?

Fuhaha, Yufelia and Niina? Those two are one in the same. They are without a doubt twins.”

T/N: I went to a weeding last month. It took three days of travel and a Wednesday that was maybe 40 hours long. I got on a plan Wednesday at 2 pm, and then got off Wednesday at 9 am.
