Chapter Nineteen: The Salvatos’ Retainers Are Seriously Scary

“This is ridiculous. Aren’t your retainers a bit too unreal?”

“I’ll refrain from commenting on that.”

Reinhard had shouted words like ‘Fine!  What if you can take down a wild boar?  Do you think I’d be frightened by something like that?’ despite Alice’s concerns. In the end, he had lost terribly. Despite the fact that he had lost consciousness in a matter of seconds, Lili had continued to kick and punch him in the face. Even though they had agreed to give up their status, this had happened at Alice’s house. As a result, she had been forced to go get a first-aid kit and tend to Reinhard’s wounds.

Huh? Why am I, a duke’s daughter, treating him, you ask. Simply said, leaving Lili or Mary in charge would have been too terrifying. I wanted to avoid a second disaster.

“Just bear it. Aren’t you a man?”

It’s true that allowing it to happen was also a mistake on my part… However, this is what he gets for going all out against a lady.

“Lili you see… Or, more accurately, both Mary and Lili are stronger than normal ladies.”

“I wouldn’t classify that as a normal lady in the first place. That thing is a monster.”

“Do you want to get beaten up again?”

It’s rude to call a cute lady a monster!

“I-I’ll pass! I guess that came off wrong. She’s not a monster… She’s a wild animal!”

“That doesn’t seem any different to me… But I guess she really is quite strong. Didn’t I warn you, and tell you not to do it?”

Alice agreed that her retainers were a little out of the ordinary, and that Lili had gone a little too far, which she regretted, but it was Reinhard who had picked the fight. As such, Alice had no intention of apologizing.

“……”

“Did I say something wrong?”

Alice was expecting Reinhard to clinch his fists and bite his lips, implying that he was about to say something violent. Reinhard, on the other hand, shrugged his shoulders rather than uttering such things.

“You are… It’s true that you tried to stop me, Lady Alice. It’s my fault that I became enraged after losing to a girl.”

“Huh?”

“I apologize. And thank you for treating me.”

Reinhard said, bowing his head.

Huh? Why is he so honest? Oh! I-It can’t be…

“W-Why are you so honest so suddenly… I-Is this because I decided to treat you?”

If this is the case, it would be very Waku Academy-like. After all, it’s the kind of game where the love interests fall for the protagonist over the tiniest of details. That’s also one of the reasons the heroine got the name Simpline going for her. Although I still feel like that name sounds a bit off.

“Are you taking me for a fool as well? I can at the very least admit when I’m wrong and express gratitude for the treatment I’ve received.”

Reinhard said with a snort and turned his gaze away.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Sorry, I just assumed that you weren’t that type of character.

“I don’t think that me treating you is such a big deal, but okay… I’ll gladly accept your thanks.”

“You’d better. Also, I’ll admit that I was wrong, but you should also do something about your retainers! Hitting someone who is already unconscious is a bit excessive!”

“Y-You’re right about that part… I do apologize for that.”

Alice said, bowing.

Well he’s got a point. That really was a bit overboard. And Lili even told me that she’d been holding back and hitting him in a way that would leave bruises. To begin with, how do you hit so as to not leave bruises?! Is she some kind of bullying pro?!

“You could also say that it was completely due to my lack of training… I’ve got a long way to go.”

“I don’t believe this is a level that can be obtained solely by training, but give it your all.”

“Hmph! Of course I will. You don’t need to tell me.”

Reinhard said with a wry smile.

“But, are you really okay with me becoming stronger?”

“What do you mean?”

It makes no difference to me whether he becomes strong or not…

Was what Alice thought. Reinhard, on the other hand, had a wry grin on his face as he looked at her.

“You can’t even figure this out, huh? I’m the son of the opposing faction’s leader. Would it really be okay with you If I get stronger?”

“……”

I’m shocked. Up until now I only saw him as a muscle-brained idiot. To think that he’d say something like this… Wait. Doesn’t this imply that what Mary mentioned about his attitude at the start was correct?

“Wow…”

Well I guess it’s fine.

“What is that ‘wow’ for?”

“It’s nothing… I was just thinking that no matter how strong you get, Sir Reinhard, you’ll never be able to beat Lili.”

To be honest, I’m quite impressed by his mentality.  It’s incredible that he can still say things like these after being battered by Lili in a matter of seconds.

“Y-You?!”

“Rather, you’re quite amazing. I have to say that I do respect you in a way.”

“You’re taking me for a fool aren’t you?!”

“No, I really am impressed. You wouldn’t normally say such things. I applaud your mentality.”

A strong mentality is a good weapon, but it’s not one I normally fawn over or want. Although I imagine today was a little too much even for him.

“!!! That’s it! I’m going home!”

“You are? The door’s that way, you know?”

“I know!!!”

Reinhard retorted fiercely and strode briskly towards the door. As Alice watched Reinhard leave, she noticed Zeke coming up to her.

“You really are a demon, Alice.”

“How exactly?”

“D-Don’t think about it. That aside. I just had Lady Liliana teach me some things.”

“Is that so? That’s great, Your Highness! Did you have fun? Lili’s quite strong so I presume that it must have been really useful!”

“You really are a demon, aren’t you? Don’t you feel anything about your fiancée meeting another woma… Let’s just leave it at that. You see, I scratched my elbow a bit right here.”

Zeke said and showed his elbow to Alice. I see.

“Do you need to treat it?”

“T-That’s right! S-So if y-you could, would you…”

“The first-aid kit is right there. Do you want me to bring it to you?”

“……”

“Zeke? Is there something wrong?”

“Leave it…”

In a pouting tone, Zeke said, while Alice’s mind was preoccupied with what lay ahead for her the next day.
