I Was Reincarnated as a Villainess, but My Fiancé (Main Hero) is Taking Care of Me?! [Chapter 9]

Chapter Nine: The City of Rovigi (Part I)

“This is Rovigi.”

Prompted by Reginald-sama, I looked out the window of our carriage. It had taken us an hour and a half to leave the royal capital, switch carriages, and arrive at the relatively large city with a beautiful brick-and-mortar landscape.

“I’ve made plans for us to stay at the reigning Count’s villa; he governs this area so I thought it would be prudent. I had confirmed it with the current Count’s predecessor earlier.”

“…Is that alright?”

“Yes, his predecessor is one of our top ministers after all.” Reginald-sama smiled as he spoke to me.

Right now, he’s disguised so as to stay incognito. His hair – though still brown – has been changed into an alternative style, while his eyes have been manipulated to go from vermillion to a softer amber. His clothes give off the impression that he is a lower tier aristocrat. In other words, simple for an aristocrat, yet more luxurious than what a commoner might wear.

The most unusual aspect is the black-rimmed glasses. Honestly, they look like any lame pair of glasses that I had seen in my previous life, but Reginald-sama doesn’t look unattractive at all. In fact, it’s like a spice that has enhanced his already good looks.

…In the end, I guess good-looking guys stayed good-looking no matter what they did.

By the way, I’m in disguise too. I looked a little more rough, with my hair simply held up by a small accessory. I wore a one-piece dress designed to make me look more like a member of lower nobility as well.

I definitely look plainer than usual, but the disguise is a bit simpler because my face isn’t as well-known as a member of the royal family’s is. Therefore, my dress just had to be less elaborate to reflect that I’m of lower aristocracy and not a Marquis’ daughter.

“Let’s go.” With the help of – of course, none other than – Reginald-sama, I disembarked from the simple carriage. Well, the exterior was simple, but the interior was quite luxurious, with fluffy seats that were comfortable to sit on for extended periods. You couldn’t tell from the outside but the inside was even quite large. Even though it looked plain on the outside, it was still property of the royal family, after all.

Anyway, it was good that it was plain, as it made sure that we didn’t stand out.

“Rovigi is characterized by it’s beautiful cityscape, many tourists come to see it every year. It being pretty close to the royal capital helps with that too, I suppose. Ah, by the way, their specialty is bread.”

“…Bread?”

“Yes, wheat production is thriving in this area, causing many rare and delicious breads to be produced. See how the bakeries stand out?” Reginald-sama points to a nearby signboard.

Certainly, that was quite the elaborate bakery sign. Furthermore, if you looked closely, it seemed there were a few more elaborate bakeries on the main street. In my past life, I’d noticed many souvenir shops in touristy areas. I wonder if it was something similar to that?

…But still, this cityscape is different from the game.

I think while staring at my surroundings. The name of the city in the game was never mentioned, but the background and atmosphere feel different from the illustrations. It’s likely that this year’s Fairy Festival won’t be held here.

“Where shall we go after this?” I turned to Reginald-sama and asked.

After thinking for a moment, he was handed a bunch of documents from his servant Roy, who had been following us at a little distance. What were they? Just as I was wondering, the Prince passed me a paper from the stack.

“We’ve decided to go visit a temple that enshrines fairies and other spirits. Then, we’ll observe Main Street for a while, to check how secure it is.”

“…Is that all?”

“Yes, that’s right. The rest of the schedule is pretty flexible.”

Somehow, the tour feels different from my expectations. I’d thought that there would be more checkpoints or something. I was wondering about how to proceed. Would they notice if I slipped away for a bit?

…Rather, Reginald-sama, did you forget the bait that you had hooked me with?

“Erm, about your promise…”

Fufu, don’t worry. I keep my word. Let’s go to the most famous bakery, it’s sure to be incredibly delicious. You see, I’m the type that feeds my fish properly.”

“…Why don’t you stop treating people like fish?”

“I’m sorry Euphemia-jyou, I was just making a small joke.”

There’s no reason to make fun of me though? I looked at Reginald-sama begrudgingly, as I thought this, but he only laughed happily. Hey, I’m angry over here.

“Well, I’m in a good mood thinking about the bread, so I’ll let it go.”

“…Thank goodness.”

I look away from Reginald-sama.

The relationship between the main hero and me is so different from the game. I don’t know how this will affect our future, but I think it’s alright to have fun for now. In the game, Reginald-sama in the game was a perfect prince who was purely the doting type. He didn’t have a black-bellied side like he does now, I thought, walking next to him.
