77.2 The Witch’s Wedding
Roze widens her eyes and stares at the priest.
Harij steps closer to Roze, who’s still stupefied watching the priest.
She’s surprised to find the handsome Harij at such a close range.
Then, he unveils her. The black veil is turned over her head.
Roze’s eyes, which are slightly wet with tears, are exposed.
Didn’t Harij prepares that veil for the exact purpose of Roze hiding her facial expressions!? He knows of the witch’s customs, right!?
Then, why is he unveiling her?
Roze can’t comprehend him at all…
Her brain is muddled, but she stays expressionless, therefore, Harij doesn’t notice anything.
Harij cups her cheek in his palm.
He might be confused why her cheek is a bit hard—when it’s in fact, due to her face becoming tense.
Harij’s thumb gently caresses Roze—due to the angle, it’s hidden from view.
No, no, no—Roze keeps repeating in her heart.
What confuses Roze the most at that moment is Harij.
She doesn’t know what’s going to happen—
—no, she doesn’t want to know what’s going to happen, she doesn’t even want to begin to comprehend it—she’s deliberately in denial, especially after realizing her limits.
Then, her face is lifted up as Harij’s face approaches.
The space between them is about to disappear!
Harij grabs Roze’s thin arm, who’s about to block his lips.
…That’s the voice of a Gatekeeper of Hell right there, and not someone who’s about to get married.
Roze is about to crawl to the exit.
Roze understands that their solemn occasion requires strictness and grace, but there’s no helping it. There are things that are just impossible for some to do.
“—this is different, this isn’t like what I thought it was going to be!”
“How is this any different?”
Roze did tell Harij that she will compromise about the kiss of oath—but the situation exceeds Roze’s imagination!
“We, we’re in public!”
They are people who speak the language of earth! Who walk on the ground using two feet! What happened to chastity!?
Harij gives her a look of heartfelt pity.
“I forgot to tell you—the wedding vow kiss is usually done in public.”
“Is, is this really necessary!? It’s outright shameful!”
“Roze, I told you that you don’t have to. But you finally gave your consent—ever since that moment, everything has been decided.”
She can’t believe it.
When she heard that there was going to be a kiss in a wedding, she imagined the kiss would require the couple to move somewhere private, with only two of them…
No way, in public!?
She never dreamed she would be asked to perform such physical contact in front of the God they believe in.
“Are, are you sane…?”
If it’s allowed, she wants to faint right there and then.
Roze is a witch—
—and witches honors the promises they make—
—and Roze made a promise to Harij.
Instead of dancing with Yashm in the ball, she would kiss Harij at the wedding.
She did this to herself.
“But, this, this is just…”
She looks at the priest, begging for salvation, and also the guests.
But everyone, except Tien, who’s holding his head, eyes Roze strangely.
It’s different from the usual contemptuous gazes they would rain upon the witch.
Their gazes are warm—as if they’re enduring laughing at an innocent girl whose face is dyed red.
“Eyes, your eyes!”
Roze turns towards all the attendees.
“All of you, close your eyes, please!”
All the attendees give their respect to the innocent bride and close their eyes.
Even the priest closes his eyes.
Roze lifts her chin for Harij.
Harij isn’t the slightest bit stupefied by his new wife, who is changing the progress of the ceremony—and instead, waits for her calmly.
Roze finally closes her eyes tightly.
Harij cups Roze’s cheeks, and embrace her waist.
