26. Second Go! (10)
Chris came forward with a slightly crooked index finger near his mouth, giving a, āIām currently thinkingā atmosphere.
ā…O Fire Spirit, this isnāt a command, but a plea. Lend me your flame and heat to assist me in doing good deeds.ā
It was a chant from the textbook. It would be a perfect incantation, if not for his strangely thick and low voice.
However, even though Chris continued to hold his hand forward, there was no sign of the fire spirit responding.
When everyone else froze on spot, holding their breath as they waited, Ally saw two fire spirits listening to them from behind a tree, a bit far behind.
…no matter how she looked at it, those fire spirits were pushing the responsibility to each other…
…āYou should go!ā āNo, you!ā they said.
It took about 5 minutes before they finally settled which one of them would goāthrough rock-paper-scissorsāthat kind of thing exists in the world of spirits?!
The entire time, Ally was clutching her head, ready to roll on the ground.
āwhat was the difference from their previous chanting method, then!?
It took so damn long, they wouldnāt be able to last in actual battle!
Eventually, the dead branches around them were properly lit. But the fire was weak, too weak.
She couldnāt blame the spirit of fire, he was fearing for his own life, after all.
But, in terms of the incantation periodāit was just absurdly long!
ā…As I thought.ā
With his hand covering his mouth, Chrisā voice trembled.
ā…Iām convinced. This is just a possibility but, mayhap, weāve built up too much muscle and look terrifying.ā
āYou bring up that now!?ā
Takkun made a really nice retort without hesitating. Speaking of which, the mountains were Takkunās territoryāas expected, he was truly a faithful minion, he came without even being called.
āIāve always been wondering about it. Why did the spirits not respond to our chants, even though weāve obtained such wonderful bodies from which magical power leaks out? Itās also possible that we simply havenāt attained enough strength, yet. But it seems that the real answer lies in our recurring dreams!ā
āWhat did you sayā?!ā
Maximilian lifted his eyebrow. Even though his fighting spirit and exuberance had been successfully suppressed, that gaze alone was enough to skewer 10 spirits with one look.
Chris then saidā
āāPlease, recall it. Our recurring dreams are blurry and vague. We canāt even see the form of the threat. Instead, we keep being shown the endless pathetic behavior of our bean sprout selves! Therefore, we came to the conclusion that itās our pathetic selves that we should be getting rid of!ā
āY, youāre right!ā
Muscle brain Martin nodded.
Chris kept his bent index finger under his chin and continued explaining.
āItās the nature of the spirits to help the weak. In fact, itās already established in both girlsā and childrenās storybooks. In my dream, I recall how the spirits surrounded me in obvious concern when I was in weakened state. However, because I was already dying, I failed to even chant a single spell…ā
ā…Now that you said it…ā
It seemed that Stephen had a flashback, because his eyes were wide open.
Chris closed his eyes as he arrived upon a conclusion.
ā…Even when dreaming, I keep thinking about thisāso the spirits would approach without even being summoned when youāre that kind of pathetic but good-looking person, huh!? Even though heās such a weakling and his magical power is slight! Even though he has not enough physical strength to use magic!ā
āDoes that mean the amount and quality of magical power are secondary to the spirits, and what mattered most is whether or not the caller is beautiful!?ā
Representative Geoffrey said with a terrible tone.
Christ thrusted his hand forward and shouted, āYouāre exactly right!ā
āFor men like us, who have tremendous magical power but also such fervent appearances, that we unnerve the spirits is only likely! In other words, when we chant to them, we have to humble ourselves! Normal chanting is no good!ā
āBAAAAAAN!
Chris said with a face that caused the sound effect to be heard.
Maximilian raised his eyebrows again.
āWho wouldāve thought theyāre dissatisfied with that…ā
He said with such a small voice it was unbefitting of the Overlord of Muscle.
***T/N:
…āYou should go!ā āNo, you!ā they said.
WHY. WHY ARE YOU GUYS LIKE THIS!?!?!?!? ????
ā…Even when dreaming, I keep thinking about thisāso the spirits would approach without even being summoned when youāre that kind of pathetic but good-looking person, huh!? Even though heās such a weakling and his magical power is slight! Even though he has not enough physical strength to use magic!ā
…Halfway, this dude probably forget he’s bashing himself.
Those poor spirits! ?
Also, I love how they keep trashtalking their past selves.
All their brain power went into muscle growth…
“It took about 5 minutes before they finally settled which one of them would goāthrough rock-paper-scissorsāthat kind of thing exists in the world of spirits?!”
They were so reluctant to do it they had to do this to decide……..
I don’t think that the spirits help based on their appearance it’s just that their appearance is so scary it affects their willingness to help. Just like how one would be reluctant to help someone who looks and acts like a murderer….
“WHY. WHY ARE YOU GUYS LIKE THIS!?!?!?!? ????”
If YOU were one of those poor fire spirits being sincerely called upon and you see SWOLE, brimming with overflowing and unbearable MANLINESS, would YOU immediately rush in and help out?
I would.
Be professional, dammit.
Not even professionals would rush in if they can’t guarantee their safety, especially against THAT
Well that’s YOUR definition of professional.
Not judging based on appearance is part of being professional too imo.
Not really. EMTs and other first responders are trained NOT to rush into danger to save someone, which is why the first thing you do in an emergency is to check if the scene is safe, first of all for YOURSELF. Because in reality your life is more important than the one you’re trying to respond to, because you can go on to save more people if you’re alive and uninjured. So yeah, that’s how professionals do it; they only risk their necks when there’s no other choice.
So it’s pretty much professional to be doing that.
And yes, if you’re suddenly asked to provide your power to someone obviously SWOLE enough one wrong move and they could squish you unintentionally, you would be fearful of them.
I always thought the spirits always lurk in the nature 24 hours so they wouldve seen that those muscular squadron are harmless ppl?
I dont know why you perceive them with so much wariness, and i also dont know why you took my initial remark in TN which is obv a joke to the point you have to point your finger at my face using those capslock and talk me down like this.
Before going on, I’m sorry if capslocking that word offended you. First off, I was trying to go at it at a more comical sense seeing how absurd the reaction of the spirits to the capture targets’ physique, and I meant it in no way in any form of an offense or singling out on you. Ah…then again, you can’t really put into words how silly making them that SWOLE (and yes, I’m using it again as an attempt of satire) cheesy buff beefcakes that they are! That guy who posts pics of gorillas has a good idea on it however.
And, honestly I’m not sure what the mechanics of the spirits are in that world are. Though if you wanted a serious analysis, it might be that the spirits may be blissfully ignorant of other beings and instead perceive more of nature until the point that someone attempts to invoke them.
I find it odd that they didn’t manage to react when our MC was staring at the two non-contracted fire spirits that appeared when she was near the group of the prince and co when that fire magic was attempted to be invoked. Since she contracted at least a powerful spirit and can clearly see spirits, I’m sure the chance could’ve happened to nudge them forward/becokon to help instead of that sort of reaction.
It’s only conjecture are she hasn’t been mentioning seeing non-contracted spirits around at all in the previous chapters, but it feels likely.
I am so sorry I misunderstood as well. My replies afterwards most probably stemmed from my defensive reaction.
Hola!
This must be my most favorite chapter by far!
[Chris said with a face that caused the sound effect to be heard.] = line that basically killed me!
My mental image of what magic spirits should be like… has now completely fallen apart. I never knew they were co-members of the Appearance Association!
Wait. the spirits gathered around them while they were basically already dead. So… Mia is going to kill them or plans on killing them.
This is different from the normal otome game reverse harem tropes. Does this mean that Mia is working with someone else that is trying to destroy the kingdom?
Like why would you kill the person that will do anything for you because charm magic?
This is getting weird…
Wait. Isn’t Ally super muscular too? Or does it not show that much?
Nah, the Meat Mountains are basically psychotic body builders, whereas I think sheās just someone whoās done a ton of outdoor labour and built up an huge capacity for physical endurance.
š they are too much š thank you
You know, probably one of the best inversions of the “reincarnation crown prince redemption” trope is the fact that these muscle idiots have worked SO HARD in this life to make up for their past lives.
Like, they’re doing it in a dumbass way, but they’ve given their all to it. I’m not even upset that Maximilian is the ML here.
Well at least they finally figured it out. Maybe they’ll figure out that the muscles are scaring away more then just the spirits.
Every time this updates I’m like “What ridiculous thing will the Muscle Squad do today?” and I’m never disappointed ????
Thank for the update
