250: The Battle Maiden Wants to Study Abroad (13)
“Our homeroom teachers have been resigning one after another, and as a teaching assistant, there are many things I can’t do. It was a problem. Still, I never thought that such a cute teacher would come!”
“O-of course you didn’t…”
Actually, same.
A teacher, instead of a student.
How did it turn out like this? Why was that man entertain the idea so easily?! Well, Vissel did. By the way, when Roger first saw her age, he thought it was a typo.
In such a situation, Jill found it difficult to say, “No, I’m actually a student.” After all, Vissel’s letter of introduction clearly stated that she was a teacher.
If she were to say, “There’s been a mistake, can we start over?” it’d look extremely suspicious! She was already lying about a lot of things! Besides, that’d require her going back to the Rave Empire and redoing the process all over again!
Above all, Jill’s goal could be achieved even if she wasn’t a student. Somehow, it was more fitting for her to become an instructor and a member of the management team.
Even so, she couldn’t bring herself to forgive Vissel’s actions. Just in case he staged another rebellion in the future, she’d personally go and defeat him!
While escaping reality with such thoughts, Roger was already outside the school building. Jill blinked.
“Where’s the teachers’ office?”
“…How much have you heard about the classes you’re in charge of, Teacher Jill? As expected, nothing, huh?”
The ‘as expected’ phrase bothered her, but she obediently nodded. Roger sighed with a look of understanding on his face. Without hesitation, he walked away from the school building.
“I knew it. So, how much do you know?”
“Anyone over ten years old can enroll regardless of gender. I know there’s a strict meritocratic system, and classes are divided by grades.”
“Correct. From the top, we have the Golden Dragon Class, the Purple Dragon Class, and the Blue Dragon Class. I think the numbers are smaller than other military academies. A class has a maximum of 30 students. After all, that’s the number of people in a platoon in the Dragon Knights of the Rave Empire.”
“So… well, the entire student body is…”
“Right now, there are just over 200. Students are allowed to stay for six years, so some students are in their sixth year. However, there’s only one Golden Dragon Class, made of top students, regardless of their year. As for Purple Dragon Class, there are six classes in total, one for first and second years. Below that, there’s the Blue Dragon Class—commonly known as Brown Rats Class—which you’ll be in charge from now on. It also only has one class.”
“B-Brown Rats?!”
Roger smiled wryly when he saw Jill’s shock.
“You don’t usually get called a Blue Dragon on campus, after all. Since they don’t exist. Do you understand what I mean? It may be unpleasant, but if you want to get by here, you’d better get used to being called a Brown Rat.”
“Uhm, well… what kind of class is it?”
“To put it simply, a class for dropouts.” Roger stated firmly.
“Bad behavior, poor grades… For those reasons, they were dropped from the Purple Dragon Class. The Blue Dragon Class consists of those who still have time left to attend. That’s why the classroom isn’t in the school building.”
“Isn’t that weird? No matter awful their grades and behavior are, to not get a classroom…”
“It’s to set an example. …Here we are.”
Jill stopped in her tracks. In the shade of the school buildings, there was an old building that looked like a forlorn warehouse. Of course, it couldn’t be compared to the neat and tidy front of the school.
Beside the stunned Jill, Roger sighed.
“…It’s true that there are many bad apples in this class, and many who’ve lost motivation. Still, they passed the entrance exam. They should be able to do it if they try.”
“O-of course…”
She felt like she had suddenly been thrown into a poor educational environment. Still, it wasn’t the students’ fault. Jill regained her composure.
“But a recent student has been quite problematic. We can’t control him. He’s making their homeroom teachers leave one after another. I only became the teaching assistant last month.”
“I-Is he going to get violent?!”
“Of course not. He’s the grandson of the Grand Duke of Leyca. Lutiya Theos Rave.”
Jill’s eyes widened. That was Hades’ younger brother!
“He’s a member of the Rave imperial family, right? So why…”
She couldn’t help but ask. Despite hearing that he was in the military academy, it was still difficult to believe. No matter how poor his grades were, shouldn’t the school put him in the top class out of consideration?
“This is a meritocracy, after all. If your grades or behavior are poor, there will be no mercy. But the world is unstable right now, so he’s being affected by that. He’s a member of the Rave imperial army, alright. …Have you seen any Rave soldiers in town, Teacher Jill?”
“Oh, no… but…”
She couldn’t admit that she had almost been shot down.
Roger gave her a wry smile.
“Of course not. You’ll understand soon, but don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. They’ve always been there, but lately, they’re getting really tyrannical. Leyca harbors a lot of resentment toward their home country. Naturally, the school is no exception. This is an educational institution that Leyca takes pride in.”
Jill narrowed her eyes, and Roger sighed as if exhausted.
“But… there’s no doubt about it. He’s a problem child.”
“Are you sure about that…?”
“Over the last six months, four teachers have been driven out. You shouldn’t underestimate a 13-year-old… Although, it feels weird to say that to Teacher Jill.”
Roger smiled fondly at Jill.
“We have it rough, but it’s part of the job. Let’s do our best.”
“Y-yes. Mr. Roger is the teaching assistant, right?”
“Yes. But like I said before, there’s really nothing I can do. Or rather… I’ll say it now since you’ll find out later anyway. The ‘teaching assistant’ is basically a spy from the main school building.”
Before she could ask for the meaning behind the unpleasant word, Roger handed her the attendance book.
“You’ll start working from tomorrow. I leave the rest to you.”
“What? Leave it to me? What about today’s class…?”
“You can’t teach those who refuses to learn. There are no blue dragons. Such is the policy.”
Roger turned on his heels. Not knowing how to stop him, Jill stood there in a daze.
“W-what am I supposed to do about this…”
It was already difficult enough to wrap her head around the idea that she’d be teaching! However, Roger merely ignored her. Moreover, a class with a problem child who had driven out several teachers was just impossible!
“Are you a new student?”
—turning around, she saw a boy in uniform.
