Extra 26: What is Yandere (2)
(POV: Zafield)
“—This is going to be the last time.”
As I said this, I did the 30th kabedon. Then, I grabbed my older brother’s chin.
“‘Don’t leave my side. Otherwise, I’ll end up wanting to lock you away somewhere.’”
Was there any fate more tragic than facing my own brother like this?
Moreover, he was taller than me, you know? Stretching up and grabbing a guy’s chin while doing that…
Ah… this is sickening, not cute, just plain sickening.
Yet, my brother nodded and said, “Hmm…” before asking me another question.
“What’s the ideal degree to which you should lift her chin?”
“What, you want me to measure it with a protractor?”
“I’d love that!”
Lately, Lelouche had been preoccupied with doubts about my true motives for wanting to kill my brother.
Oh, is ‘he made me lift his chin and measure the angle with a protractor’ good enough for you, Lelouche?
The morning sun had risen behind the curtains.
Did we really stay up all night over something so ridiculous?
Alright, I’d be a bit stricter in today’s sword training.
Looking forward to spending my lunch break with Lelouche—the root of all evil—I took out my protractor.
And so, for the first time in a while, I was going to school in the same carriage as my brother.
Even while in the carriage, he was perfecting his yandere side.
Seriously, what kind of yandere is this? An effortless yandere? I wonder if there are women who’d be happy with such a fake yandere, though.
Waiting for Lelouch at the school gates was a daily routine for my brother. The students around us weren’t surprised at this point. It was me who was being looked at with curious eyes.
“Will there be a special event today with Prince Zafield?”
“Ah… no, just my older brother. I’m not planning anything special.”
Indeed, I wasn’t like my brother who proposed daily or just randomly decided to be a yandere one day. Wouldn’t humiliating himself in broad daylight every day have a negative impact on his image as the future king?
Well, that’s none of my business.
As I was casually chatting with the nearby students, Lelouche arrived at school.
By the way, Lumiere had arrived earlier. She was cheering on my brother, saying, “Do your best today!” and “Ah, leave it to me!” It seemed that their friendship had deepened smoothly. I was a little envious of her refreshing demeanor, which was purely platonic.
Now, it was time for the real thing.
“Lelouche! Today I want you to hear how I feel!”
Even Lelouche stopped in her tracks when he called her name loudly.
Before she could even greet him, my brother approached Lelouche.
He gulped, asking, “May I lift your chin up?”
“No.”
“…”
“No.”
“W-what? Why?”
No way, absolutely not!”
“…I’m sorry.”
Then, my brother came over to me, bowing his head.
“Zafield, I’m sorry… Even though you helped me so much…”
I mean, why did you even ask her in the first place? Of course she’d say no, she’s Lelouche!
But there was no point in saying that now, and it wasn’t like I wanted to be of any use to him.
“Well… don’t worry about it.”
I gave my brother a half-hearted pat on the shoulder.
***
(POV: Lumiere)
“Lady Lelouche, about this morning…”
“Why are you stuttering?”
“Eep!”
The same thing happened after school that day. I quickly shrugged my shoulders at Lelouche’s sharp remark.
…It’s not an everyday occurrence.
I pulled myself together and asked Lelouche.
“Was it really okay to dismiss Prince Sazanjill’s kindness?”
“Kindness?”
“Well… I heard rumors that he learned some unfamiliar pick-up lines for Lady Lelouche.”
“I wanted him to use them to woo Lumiere.”
“Huh?”
My eyes opened wide, and sure enough, Lelouche would give me a sharp look.
But, for once, Lelouche sighed.
“I’m a woman too.”
“…I know.”
“Even if it wasn’t His Highness, it’s troublesome when another meekly asks, ‘I’m going to flirt with you now!’”
That pouty expression was befitting of a girl her age.
I couldn’t help but smile.
“In that case, can I try the yandere challenge next time?”
“Who will you use it on?”
“That’s a secret.”
Lelouche passed away a few dozen days later, so I didn’t have the opportunity to show off my yandere side.
But Lelouche, please remember me when we met again in the sky someday. My feelings for you had become even heavier since.
Well, I think you’ll get angry if I go to see you now.
Not that I have any plans to go see you anytime soon either, though.
