262: The Battle Maiden Wants to Study Abroad (25)
What would happen to the Gold Dragon class?
Jill never considered that before. Noin’s eyes widened as he came to the same realization.
Lutiya, who had somehow escaped the binding barrier, sneered at Noin.
“It’ll be your turn now. People will laugh and point fingers at you. Serves you right!”
“I’ll take responsibility as the class representative! The principal won’t punish the entire Gold Dragon class!”
“So, you’re going against us? Talk about throwing away the tuition money your father secured by being a doormat!”
“Do you really think you’ll win?!”
“We will win!” Lutiya shouted.
He seemed to belatedly realize the contraction in his own actions, but he couldn’t back down. Especially against someone of the same age and gender.
“…So, you’ll be leading the Blue Dragon Class, then?”
“Obviously.”
Lutiya replied, agitated. Jill tried to hold back her laughter, but several students burst out. When Haddy responded, they froze instantly.
Noin looked back at Lutiya, then pursed his lips.
“—I understand. Teacher Jill, thank you for your advice. It seems that I was indeed meddling. Forget it. Bye.”
“Wait, go back with Teacher Roger. There are dragons on this mountain.”
“That’s fine. I’m not a member of the Rave Imperial Family. I can go back by myself.”
Glancing at Lutiya, who raised an eyebrow with a frown, Noin quickly turned on his heels.
“Looks like someone is resolved now… Is this really okay?”
Roger whispered in her ear, and Jill answered.
“Bring it… Did something happen between those two?”
“Apparently, on the enrollment day, Noin snapped at Prince Lutiya. ‘It’s because of your attitude that distrust for the Rave Empire is spreading! Get yourself together!’ They’ve been like that ever since.”
“—Hey, you!”
Lutiya vigorously turned around and spat out with a pouting face.
“What do you want me to do?!”
“…Didn’t you say that you won’t do any training earlier?”
“I changed my mind! Besides, you told me to do what I want!”
Lutiya shot back, seemingly embarrassed. Jill spoke up, trying to suppress her amusement as much as possible.
“You dispelled the binding barrier on your own, so you don’t need anymore training. I’ll entrust you with the training of your classmates until they’re just as capable. After that, you’ll need to understand each of their abilities and come up with a strategy.”
“Fine. Since it’s come down to this, I’ll make sure everyone gets sick before the match and is absent.”
“No, you won’t.”
Instead of answering, Lutiya went toward the students running away from Sauté. He called Sauté to a halt and gathered the student together. It seemed like he was about to come up with a plan.
“Wow… I never thought Lutiya would get motivated…”
Looking at the students with Roger, Jill nodded with complex emotions.
“The power of youth is amazing…”
“No, that’s not—Jill, how old are you again?”
“Can you help me with the training, Teacher Roger?”
“What a hassle. What do you expect from a useless instructor like me—”
“You’re strong, Teacher Roger. Much stronger than the principal. In fact, the best in the academy.”
Jill looked at him under the sunlight filtering through the trees. With his eyes widening, Roger laughed.
“I can’t deny my share of experiences. Before I became a teacher, I was a drifter with no fixed address. I learned to protect myself.”
“Are you planning on teaching the students self-defense techniques?”
“They’re a bit busy preparing for the tournament. It’d be a nuisance if I barged there now. They’ve really come together around Teacher Jill.”
“I don’t think that’s the case. My term is three months. After the tournament is over, we’ll be saying our goodbyes. Hence, I hope that Teacher Roger will become their homeroom teacher.”
“Are you worried about your successor already? You’re a really good teacher. You care about your students. I’m a bad teacher, so I’m a bit jealous.”
“A bad teacher wouldn’t be so self-aware and speak with such regret showing on his face.”
Roger laughed lightly, stretching his back.
“I’ll think about it. Let’s see, when and if the class match ends without a hitch?”
“…Teacher, are you doing any work?”
“Excuse me? I already get my hands full with security and all that. Chancellor Miner will be there, it’s an important event. If the students of the Blue Dragon Class perform well, then reviewing the class system won’t be a pipe dream.”
Jill blinked, and Roger winked in response. Without saying anything further, he headed down the slope he came up.
…I don’t think a bad teacher would give such advice…
He didn’t try to help at all and cleverly hid his abilities, making him extremely shady. Nevertheless, he was definitely a good teacher. He was also good at getting along with people—something Jill lacked. She wanted a teacher like that at her own military academy.
“Ukkyu!”
Rho suddenly jumped out of the bushes and clung to Jill’s leg.
“Rho! How is it going with the dragons? Did one come?”
Instead of an answer, a strong wind blew, tilting the trees. The students screamed, and Sauté held down Haddy which was about to fly off somewhere.
A dragon with red scales lead the way, slowly descending from the sky. Jill’s eyes lit up.
“A red dragon! Good job, Rho! And there are so many green dragons, too!”
“Ukkyun!”
Rho puffed out his chest and flared his nostrils.
Jill took a step forward to greet the dragons. However, the red dragon, with a grim expression, suddenly roared. Jill was taken aback at the sudden fighting stance.
“W-what’s this all of a sudden? Rho, did you explain the situation properly?”
“Ukkyu?”
Rho’s big, round eyes seemed to ask what she meant by explanation, and her expression twitched.
“Graaah!”
The red dragon let out a tragic scream that seemed to say, “If you’re going to kill someone, kill me first!” On a closer inspection, it also looked like it was shielding the green dragons behind him. The students shouted.
“There are so many green dragons, and even a red dragon…!”
“Hide in the shadows! Dragons hate magic and will attack, but don’t let them scare you! Just think of them as teddy bears!”
Lutiya’s instructions were spot on. Thinking about it, Jill looked straight at the dragons.
“What are you doing? Run away! You can’t handle this many dragons on your own!” (Lutiya)
“—No, this is good.”
