255: The Battle Maiden Wants to Study Abroad (18)
A middle-aged man came out onto the training ground. He had a gentlemanly appearance and was stroking his beard. Jill recognized him. After all, she’d seen him from the pamphlet.
…He’s Principal Gunther. He’s also the homeroom teacher of the Gold Dragon Class.
The principal, accompanied by an impressive guard, came up to Noin.
“What’s going on, Noin? Just order the dragons to burn these sewer rats to death.”
“…I’m sorry, Professor Gunther, but the dragons seem to be out of sorts.”
“Hmph. Then we can use the flute.”
The flute?
Jill knitted her eyebrows. She put Rho, who was still weeping, next to Sauté before rushing over to Gunther.
“Uhm, what’s this flute?”
“Who’s this kid?”
“…She’s the new teacher of the Blue Dragon Class.”
Noin quietly interjected from the sidelines. After glancing at Jill, Gunther snorted.
“This has nothing to do with the sewer rat class! But still, to send such a small child… The country is making fool of us! As expected, you can’t even control those rats properly!”
“That’s… I’m sorry. But thankfully, no one was injured. I’ll discuss this with my students.”
“Would rats even comprehend human language? That’s right, we should practice with moving targets every once in a while. Gold Dragon Class, prepare for battle!”
Jill’s eyes went wide. In front of her, all the students of the Gold Dragon Class, except for Noin, rushed to prepare. Their huge numbers rattled the students of the Blue Dragon Class.
“Your Highness Lutiya, this is bad… Even if they can’t use dragons…”
“Everyone, run away. I can use magic. If they move, I’ll be sure to create an opening.”
“These sewer rats never learn. You still don’t seem to understand why you’re in that class to begin with. Useless, all of you! You don’t serve any purpose for this country!”
“Are you okay, Professor Jill? Are you hurt?”
Roger had just emerged from the group of clashing people.
“Uhm, this is a joke, right? He won’t attack the students, right?”
“…The principal doesn’t like Rave.”
“But they are his students!”
While she was confused, Noin stepped forward.
“Excuse me, Professor, it’s time for class to start. We should get to the real lesson.”
“Are you protecting them, Noin? Are you going to be like your father? That traitor who leeches off his home country?”
Noin was silent, as if Gunther had struck a nerve. Then, Gunther raised his voice.
“Listen, this is just target practice. I allow you to use magic and weapons. I don’t care if you injure them. They’ll end up in the punishment cell anyway, it’s the same thing.”
The bracelets worn by the students of Gold Dragon Class glowed. They were probably devices meant to help control magic power. Jill clicked her tongue and kicked off the ground. She landed before Lutiya and the others.
Seeing that, Lutiya cried out.
“Why are you—?!”
A beautiful barrage of magical power came flying towards them, but they were just universal spells straight out of textbook.
Jill swept her arm to the side, blowing it all away.
She dispersed the attack, causing an explosion that rained dust everywhere. She didn’t even feel the need to put up a barrier. It was probably just training, so she was holding back.
Yes, let’s leave it at that.
Otherwise, she’d have screamed her head off, ‘What are you making the students do?!’
“What, a misfire?”
“What’s wrong? What happened? Did the rats do something again?”
The dust cleared from the ground, leaving Gunther and the other student confused. Jill turned to the stunned students of the Blue Dragon Class.
Some of the students flinched. They had seen everything. Lutiya also clenched his jaw warily. But soon, he forced a smile.
“Teacher, you’re so amazing! You protected us! Thank you, I’m so glad—”
Jill slapped Lutiya across the cheek with the back of her hand. There was a dull snap. Since she put in a fair amount of force, Lutiya fell onto his bottom.
The surroundings were the quietest they’d been. Looking down at Lutiya from above, Jill told him coldly.
“Your superior told you to stop, yet you ignored her. Had this happened in the military, you’d have been punished for disobeying orders. Lucky you, this is simply a military academy, so you get off with a slap.”
Lutiya, who’d been holding his red cheek, came to his senses. A smile played on his lips.
“Do you know who I am? Even if you’re my homeroom teacher, you won’t get away with this.”
“Who cares? I’ll even step on the Dragon Emperor if I have to.”
Lutiya laughed, thinking she was joking, but it was the truth. Maybe because they hadn’t shared a room for a long time, last night, her embarrassment got the better of her. Thus, Jill kicked him to the edge of the bed and drove him away, something which she still regretted to that second.
Jill placed her hands at her waist, stood upright, and turned to face her students. She took a deep breath.
“Attention!”
Perhaps because they’d been trained to a certain extent, the students stood up reflexively and straightened their backs. …But their posture still wasn’t good. Well, she could always drill it into them later.
“Sorry for the late introduction. Students of the Blue Dragon Class, I’m your teacher starting from today! You can call me Teacher Jill! As you can see, I’m just a cute girl, more delicate and fragile than you. I’m also eleven years old. There’s no need to be overly formal, much less feel intimidated. Don’t you understand?”
She smiled, cheerfully yet menacingly to the end. But fortunately, there were no fools who took her words and appearance at face value. Everyone was scrutinizing her.
“Now, everyone. I’ve been impressed by your dignified behavior since yesterday. Such a wonderful class this is, worthy of its title, the Brown Rat Class! However, even sewer rats have their own way of fighting and living! I’ll be sure to teach you that!”
Jill, who made such a declaration, was met with a confused look. Lutiya was the first to glare at her with a look of mixed caution and confusion.
“We don’t need you to teach us.”
“—Hmph, so you admit they’re rats. You seem to understand the situation, Teacher Jill.”
Gunther came up behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Your country should just remain silent and adhere to our methods! Let’s pretend what happened earlier was a mistake. Won’t you stand back? If you do so, I’ll treat you like a teacher.”
“I refuse, they’re my students.”
Even the students became uncomfortable at this. Lutiya was rubbing his arm, as if he was getting goosebumps. But it was Jill’s job. She wasn’t going to give in.
“If you want to do combat training like earlier, you have to go through me, the head instructor.”
“…Is that the will of your country?”
“No, it’s simply how you do your job.”
“So, you’re saying we should just overlook this? Are you threatening me for daring to lay a hand on Rave royalty, Prince Lutiya?”
“No, his actions are problematic. I’ll punish him properly. Sauté!”
Sauté, dragging the bag containing Rho and Haddy, tilted his head.
Jill raised her voice. “Morning classes start now!”
“What are you planning to do with that chicken?”
The principal asked mockingly. A snicker could be heard behind him. She didn’t care how she was perceived. Although… it was a bit of an issue because her students laughed too.
Their opponent was a gamecock that didn’t flinch against the Dragon God. Students who could only pull childish pranks to vent their frustration were no more than babies! Jill gave straightforward order.
“Sauté, kick all my students into the classroom.”
“Puki!”
Sauté spread his wings and ran off furiously, immediately kicking the nearby Lutiya’s butt. Everyone stared as Lutiya flew off into the distance, falling flat on his face.
Jill spoke coldly.
“If you don’t want to get kicked, run to the classroom!”
Sauté puffed out his chest and roared loudly, jumping up again and kicking the students’ butts one by one. The students ran away in a panic.
“Run awa—eek!”
“What’s with this chicken?! Ouch! It hurts! Don’t peck me!”
“Calm down, it’s just a chicken! Blow it away with magic—huh?! It dodged?!”
“It’s so fast! I’m seeing an afterimage! I can’t keep up with this chicken!”
“W-what’s with that monster…?!”
Gunther was shocked by the students who ran off like crazy while being chased by Sauté.
This will stop him from laying a hand on them under the pretext of a lesson.
“Sorry for the fuss. Leave those kids to me.”
“W-wait, who are you? Why do you have such a monster…?”
“I’m the new teacher of the Blue Dragon Class.”
Jill answered coldly, putting the bag containing Rho on her back.
