233: It’s Still too Early to be “Cool” (Bottom)
Seeing how cool it was, Jill stopped in her tracks.
She stormed out of the mansion and continued a little further. Just around the corner of the house, Hades could be seen extending his hand to a girl. After getting her to her feet, he helped pick up the scattered contents of her bag.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?”
“I-I’m fine. It’s just a scratch…”
“Oh, I’ve got a handkerchief. Just a moment, I’ll take care of it.”
The girl lit-up at those words. Hidden in the shadow of the private house, Jill narrowed her eyes.
After being helped by His Majesty, she must be thinking of getting something as a souvenir…
It was possible. Things like photos of cool guys and other trinkets were priceless.
“I couldn’t possibly trouble you,” The girl said, but she seemed excited. She looked to be enjoying the moment, if Jill said so herself.
A small encounter with a cool guy she met in a boring countryside. She was far too innocent for Jill to get angry at her. At the same time, the girl was probably three or four years older than Jill, but younger than Hades.
She’s still a girl.
‘What are you doing to my husband!?’ Would be an immature thing to say, even though Jill was eleven.
Also, His Majesty is acting unusually cool.
It was strange seeing him treating another girl so kind and politely.
Of course, that was just how he acted on the outside. He was himself more when he was interacting with Jill.
Across the corner from Jill, Hades was wrapping a handkerchief around the girl’s palm.
Somehow, Jill crouched down, leaning against the wall of the private house.
…So nice, His Majesty’s cool side.
Wasn’t that a sight she’d never be able to enjoy? She was also aware that it was for displaying to the outside world, yet she still failed to understand.
Why couldn’t his own wife bask in such a sight?
—Well, actually, she had seen it before.
Jill closed her eyes, trying to remember the version of him that didn’t wear an apron.
For example, his figure when he led the army in Radea.
His profile was illuminated by the dawn. His tremendous magical power lit up the night sky.
Leaving aside how she wanted to sock him in the face for that abrupt goodbye, he looked good, indeed.
“—But those situations are always so messy and chaotic!”
She covered her face, groaning, before shaking her head.
“There’s got to be a time where His Majesty is showing his cool side somewhere… His Majesty’s cool side… His Majesty when he acted cool with me… When he looked like a prince…”
She was sure she had seen it at a soirée or something.
Try to remember it.
Beneath the sparkling chandelier…
…Before her were massive platters of roasted pig, unlimited pasta, small baked goods that looked like jewels, and a three-tiered cake.
Suddenly, Jill fell into a slump.
“Alright, let’s just give up on His Majesty’s cool side.”
“Eh, you’re giving up?”
Suddenly, Hades was crouching in front of her. She reflexively stepped back, but her back was against the wall of the private house.
“Y-Y-Your Majesty? Since when?”
“Since you hid and didn’t come out. I was wondering what happened.”
“Why didn’t you call out to me!”
“You seemed to be in deep thought, so I thought maybe I should wait.”
Before they knew it, they were both crouching in the shadows, their knees goofily touching each other. She sighed and tried to say something, but got lost.
How should I start?
“…The vegetables?”
“I got them.”
Hades stood up first, picking up the basket from the ground.
“Let’s head back. I need to prepare the food.”
“…You aren’t going to ask me anything?”
He should’ve realized Jill was spying on him. Hades, who was about to turn away from Jill, stopped.
“If it’s about the girl from earlier, I told her that her injuries weren’t too serious and she didn’t have to return the handkerchief.”
“I didn’t really mind. Also, it’s not about that.”
“Then, it’s about your giving up on me being cool?”
“T-that’s right!”
Now that it had gone so far, the cat was out of the back.
Hades shrugged at Jill as she stood up.
“But you’ll run away from me if I act cool.”
“W-what is that supposed to mean!? There’s no way I’m going to run away!”
“—Besides, your parents are here, right? It’s no good. Especially your father, he’s too fussy. You don’t seem to comprehend much.”
I do not understand.
Still, Hades started walking as if he knew everything.
In order not to be left behind, Jill quickly went after him.
“D-does Your Majesty know? Girls fall down in front of Your Majesty on purpose.”
“Ah, I know. Well, it’s nothing unusual.”
“W-what do you mean it’s nothing unusual—!?”
Something caught the tip of her shoe, and before she knew it, she had already lost her balance.
I got this!
When she thought that, her shoulders were hugged.
It was Hades’ arm.
“Are you okay?”
“Y-yes, sorry.”
She managed not to fall. Because unlike with other girls, Hades reached out for her first. It was precisely because she noticed that her action was delayed.
Instead of helping her to her feet, Hades whispered in Jill’s ear.
“Was it on purpose?”
His meaningful smile and husky whisper made her entire body boil. Only then did she realize what he meant.
Kicking the ground, Jill distanced herself from Hades.
“N-no way that’s true! Why would I have to stage a fall in front of His Majesty!?”
“See, you ran away.”
“Huh!? That’s because—”
—He was referring to himself acting cool.
A few steps away from her, Hades tilted his head to the side. His golden eyes and shapely lips twisted wickedly.
“That’s why it’s still too early for you.”
Her shame and regret made her tremble. From her toes to the top of her head, her face and even ears were bright red. Still clenching her fists, Jill bit her lips.
Seeing that, Hades started to panic a little.
“Sorry. I don’t believe that you did it on purpose. The timing was just too good.”
He had an expression that said, ‘I overdid it,’ which was also frustrating.
Jill screamed with all her might so that even her father would hear it.
“Your Majesty is an idiot! You were toying with me!”
“Hey, now you’re purposefully making it sound misleading!”
Who cares?
She turned on her heels and quickly walked off. Hades screamed in fear, but she didn’t do anything to rectify the situation.
The other party was a man who seduced the Goddess of Love.
Nevertheless, he was also a man who would kneel to his wife.
“Jill, wait, I was wrong.”
“I’m a child anyway! You’re an idiot! His Majesty’s an idiot! Always stay three steps away from me, and don’t come near me!”
“To make up for it, I’ll make Jill’s favorite dish for dinner.”
“I won’t relent to that!”
“Then I’ll prepare dessert too, Jill—”
While saying that, Hades caught up with Jill and gently lifted her up in his arms.
“Forgive me, please.”
He spoke with a meek tone of voice, yet his lips and golden eyes were smiling wryly—it was the smile of an adult who was convinced he would be forgiven.
Jill had no choice but to forgive him.
She wasn’t a child, but his wife, so she was aware that it was a calculated attitude and a farce on his part.
That’s also strangely cool.
Annoyed, Jill aggressively hugged Hades’ neck, so much so that he let out a strange noise, but she didn’t care and silently held him.
“Okay, then. Be sure to prepare some delicious food.”
Hades started walking with calm steps.
Jill let out a small groan as she buried her red face into Hades’ shoulder.
“—Don’t underestimate me.”
It’s not up to you to decide if it’s still early or not.
She eagerly bit the shapely earlobe next to her, causing Hades to shriek and jump up.
