A Story that may Have Happened

On one particular weekend, I got up earlier than I would on a day I had classes. Although the sun had only just risen, a carriage was waiting for me at the gates of the mansion. Zafield alighted from the carriage with an exasperated look on his face.

“Good morning, Lelouche.”

“Good morning, Your Highness Zafield. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting you here today.”

It happened just the day before yesterday.

And here I thought someone else would come, but Zafield sighed and took my luggage.

“Well, I’m here today on official business. Sister-in-law, you’re going to apologize for the disrespect you’ve caused!”

Is he referring to the sword-fighting tournament the other day?

There was an incident where I took the place of an ill classmate and received a heavy scolding. It was an unfortunate misunderstanding of goodwill that I wanted to forget completely. But apparently, a bow from each of the princes wasn’t enough, so I had to apologize as well.

Although Zafield was in the role of being my supervisor and bodyguard, I never thought a day would come when I would hear those words from the Silver Prince, who was famous for disliking official duties.

In the carriage on the way, a sleepy-eyed Lumiere asked me.

“Uh, why do I need to accompany you?”

By the way, until just now, Lumiere hadn’t planned to accompany me. Earlier, I asked we stop by the Alban house. When I waited at the front door, a bed-headed Lumiere appeared, still in her pajamas.

“But after that, we can play, right?”

“Surely, someone who has to retake an exam soon doesn’t have time for that?”

Oh my, someone is really grumpy even though Lumiere is here.

What happened to his usual womanizing tendencies? But I can’t ask him that in front of Lumiere.

Thus, I replied in a ladylike yet friendly manner.

“You are being very cross today, aren’t you? If you dislike it that much, I won’t force you to come with me.”

“Like I said, I’m acting as both a supervisor and a bodyguard. Or would you have preferred to go with my brother instead?”

“I’m sure even His Highness Sazanjill would lose his temper.”

I mean, I basically threw away the dress that means a lot to him.

I’m sure he isn’t strange enough as to like a traitor such as me.

So, I replied with a snort… Zafield rested his chin on his hands and looked out the window.

“…If that’s what you think, then get this done with as soon as you can, and start studying. Unless you still want to treasure it.”

Amidst the tense atmosphere, Lumiere sighed, ‘Why am I even here?’

Of course, I didn’t bring her along just on a whim… A tourist trip should be fine, right?

The sky was so clear today and the rocking of the carriage was quite pleasant.
